well i have a 94 4Runner and am looking at options on where to put 2 10" subs and still be able to fold down the seats and not have to move them. I was thinking about taking out the little back cubby box things and make some custom boxes to fit in there. the cubbies are just about 10" so i figure i could just dremel it out a little. I was wondering if anybody has ever tried this. i've been looking at cardomain.com all night and haven't come across anything yet. if anybody has any suggestions or anything it would be greatly apriciated! if not i guess i'll find out for my self once i finally get my subs. thanks in advance

I haven't done anything like that because I have a pickup. I've always thought of using the rear holes in the back for some 8" subs. If you do it man take some pics I'd like to see how it comes out. I always like to see the pics building up a good stereo install.

I haven't done it yet, but I was thinking of doing the same thing. I'm going to go with just 1 - 8 or 1 - 10. I want it more concealed if possible.

I've thought about it too, and I was thinking about running a JL Audio 8" sub, because certain models only need a small amount of volume. I would want mine to be flush with the plastic if possible though. Is that what you were thinking?

P.S. I use to have 1 JL 12W6 in a civic, and it was too much for me. I just want a tad more low tones with great sound quality. I'm not concerned with blowing my eardrum again, as I did with te 12W6 playing beastie boys intergalactic, and not knowing the song.

I have Audiobahn 8" sub speaker and RockfordFosgate Mono Amplifier hidden in the back storage compartment. I made it so I can even use factory cover to close the entire thing and noone will ever know I have a sub there.

I'll be more than glad to take some pictures of the install once I get home tonight.

I did an installation for a buddy a few years ago in his X-Tra Cab Taco. I loaded two RF Punch 8" subs in an isobaric enclosure using the passenger side rear speaker location. I do not have pics, sorry. I ended up with about .62 Cubic Feet if I am remembering correctly. I used Fiberglass and Masonite for the enclosure.

for a while i was thinking about making something like that stelth box that Lastat posted, but it would cover my back speakers up. and yes im looking to make them flush with the interior. and maybe make a little speaker cover for them. i was thinking about 2 8's for a while cuase it would be easier but i would really rather have 10's. if/when i do it i'll be sure to take tons of pics. im sure it will end up as more than just a one day instal.

I have a 10" sub in a Q - logic enclosure in mine. Looks good , sounds better , and is out of the way.

if you don't mind spending the extra cash, i know q-logic makes one for the 3rd gen runners... perhaps it may be an option for you. i would try searching on www.crutchfield.com they have a 10" woofer and amp setup for that storage box back there.

if i were handy dandy with powertools, i'd be all about doing a custom enclosure to hide the subs back there, it'd be nice to have one on each side. however, i don't have powertools, nor do i know how to use them :cry:

from selling stuff on ebay, i have managed to pool together enough money to *begin* my audio project. Unfortunately, i have to scrounge around for some more money so i can get some nice wires to put it all together

i have managed to get some new 12" subs, a new box, some component speakers and an amp. all brand new, and for at least 1/2 off or more on ebay.

i'll definately post some pictures when i'm done.

i would love one of those q logic boxes, but they only make them for the 3rd. oh well. once i get all my stuff i'll just have to do a very custom job.

Hey all-

Not exactly what you are looking for, as I have only done this to a tacoma i previously owned...but here is my .02 cents. I pulled the plastic panels and cut the sub frame in the back of the extended cab, where I think either 6 or 6.5 inch speakers existed stock. We built two small boxes and was able to get a Rockford 8 into each one. It was a very trick and concealed little setup initially, but as time went on, and as I swapped amps to gain some more power, it began to rattle everywhere. I pulled the whole setup apart 3-4 times and added screws, hot glue, dynomat, etc and was still unable to cure the problem. I'm sure if you didnt listen to your music that loud, this could be a possible solution to concealed subs...but then, what really would be the reason for adding subs if you weren't going to thump em?? Good luck with your ideas...I'm trying to figure the new setup on the 03' runner.

What sub, and what interior volume are you running for that thing? It looks really tiny. Do you leave the cover open, or are you planning cutting a hole in it.
