Ive noticed over the last few weeks my gas gauge has be sticking in low positions. It seems like very since it got cold it started this mess. Any one have a simialr problem ? Also, has any one done a sending unit swap? How big of a PITA is it ??

This is a known issue with 3rd gens. There are a few threads about it around somewhere.....I don't think there's a surefire fix.

the gas gauge problem is only for 99s (all of them) and some 00s. TSB EL010.

sorry that doesnt answer your question but i didnt want you to go the tsb el010 route

so the TSB dosnt effect me... any other ideas to fix the sorry thing ?

I suffer the el010 tsb. My local stealership wants $900 to correct it.

Ironically, my 99" was on the list for the TSB, but I waited too long to go in to get it done. After I smashed in my tank to the point where I couldn't pick up all the fuel, it was time to fix it. So after running out most ofthe fuel, I dropped my tank, which was quite easy. then pulling the pump assembly out. At the same time I inspected the fuel sending unit, it has a wiper arn that contact a variable resistor, I put slight pressure on the arm and cycled the guage assembly to clean the contact surface. ever since I did this my sending unit has worked flawlessly.

Mine has gotten wierd when wheelin' in high angle situations, but has always evened out.

I just bought a 02 Tundra SR5 regular cab. The fuel gauge sticks at full, and at a bit above a quarter full. In both cases when I rap on the gauge cover, it drops into it's correct position. I have yet to figure out the root of the problem, but any help would be appreciated.

I would think this is likely a bad ground.

Thor...you remember a thread about the circuit board in the cluster being an issue? May have been just the 99s though, I wasn't paying enough attention at the time. Looked, but couldn't find the thread.

I knew you'd be better at that than I was! Didn't see the thread in question, tried images too, I'm remembering the circuit board being messed up, burned or something, and it was either repaired or replaced. At least your search pulled up a lot of interesting reading to get started on.

Mine goes haywire every now and again. Not worried unless it totally goes south.
