Optimus

I recently parted out an '85 4Runner, and while pulling the engine I realized it wasn't the stock engine. I knew the engine was replaced by the previous owner, but it looks like they stuck in an early Celica 22RE. The valve cover was rounded, the head is taller (or was it shorter...) and had the round exhaust ports. The block has dome top pistons and a single timing chain. I believe this engine is similar/identicle in fashion to the '82-'84.5 pickup/4Runner 22R. Is it the same as the 20R? Either way, I am wondering if anyone would be interested in it. The head is in good shape though one exhaust valve on the #3 cylinder is worn. There aren't any cracks in the head though. The block looks good, and it didn't look like there were too many miles on the engine. The head is off the block because I wanted to confirm what was causing low compression on #3. There weren't any coolant leaks, no piston slap, and it didn't seem to burn any oil.

The interesting part is, the oil pan is backwards compared to a pickup/4Runner! I thought perhaps the previous owner installed it backwards, but this is how it is supposed to be. The oil pickup tube can only be installed one way. My guess is with the oil pan this way, that would allow more clearance especially for SAS'ers. Anyway, if you're interested in this and/or can confirm what this engine is comparable to in the pickup/4Runner engine line up, I'd appreciate knowing!
