Any ideas on gears for a 01' 2wd
I have the 01' LMD 4runner. I was wondering what the gears were for these trucks and if changing them (many more mods including SC and Dual Exhaust in the future) is beneficial, for, say, 0-60 in less time. I know there is only so much bolt on HP to be gained and small tricks you can do and eventually you need to look at the drivetrain. ANy help would be nice

heres where you can find out what gears you have:

i dont know much about changing gears to gain 0-60 time, as most people here do it to get better performance off-road and better mpg with bigger tires. if youre wondering how to squeeze the most hp out of your truck ask gadget or trdolman or midiwall....as they are a few of the supercharger experts around here.
just curious, but why are you so interested in making the runner fast 0-60?

That list doesn't help my case, it says I can have any of the available gears in my rig.

I fall under:
VZN185L-GKPGKA 3.909
VZN185L-GKPGKA 4.100 With P265/70R16
VZN185L-GKPGKA 4.300 Option
The sticker says I have 15" wheels with my Sport, but the truck has 16" wheels. I'm figuring I have 4.10's since its a Sport.

I just want to "juice" up my truck. My father-in-law has a ford lightning somehting-or-rather and he puts toyota down all the time. I think that maybe, with enough money, i could stomp that lightning in the ground...other than that i just like to go fast...hehe

if youre looking to stomp a ford lightning, or stomp anything besides riced out hondas, youre going to have to put a lot of time and money into it. personally, i think you should just add some power, and keep it where it belongs, off the road.
or sell it and get a supra. then he wont say anything about toyota.

Thats a direction I could go. I could rag on his lightning cause he can't go off road.!!! haha. Is it worth the $$ to turn a 2wd 4runner into an off-road machine? That's the one of the reasons that I was looking at making it go fast. well, faster . I have looked at supra's and unless i hit the lottery , i am SOL there.

I'd just make the 4Runner nice and appealing by going with what you will think makes it nice. Throw in a good stereo and put some nicer wheels on it or something. I went down the "wanna-be 4wd" route when I got my 2wd truck when I turned 16. It was a worthless money pit. Also, your 4Runner is not meant for speed and it would cost a boatload to make it even semi-comperable to the lightning. When you did that, he could just spend $500 on a pulley and a good intake and then you are SOL once-again. Just make your truck a good, sleek ride and you will happier than you would be if you just chased other peoples opinions.

If you want to get into serious off-roading, sell the 2WD and get a 4WD or swap the 4WD components into it (I personally would sell). If you want to smoke the Lightning in a Toyota, you will probably have to go with an older Supra (affordable) and do some mods. I saw a guy run 13.8 in a 91 Supra with detached exhaust and a manual boost controller. Sure, he flogged it hard down the track, but he did hit 13's.

Right on. I think I will just go with that sleek look jodynich is talkin' 'bout. less money.
But just a "?" for <96 Runner> ; how much HP so you have with the mods you have right now??

My gearing also helps. I am one of the few running forced induction with a 5-speed and 4.30 gears. My 4R really scoots in 1st and 2nd gear.
