Any '02 4Runners out there with a M/T swap with multi mode????

My auto is failing and I'm going to install a manual transmission and ECM from a 2002 Tacoma into my 4Runner. Aelfwine on the T4R site has done this with the multi-mode tcase.

I'm curious if anyone here has. I am just about to do this and am gathering all the information I can to pass on to my mechanic prior to doing it.

What I'm specifically interested in is if there are any M/T 4Runners out there with the push button transfer case? I would like to know how to get around the two shifters interfering with each other.

Just how much fabricating was needed to get this to work??

Why do you not want to just use the transmission and Transfer case out of the same donor vehicle??

Then maybe your using the Term Mechanic meaning a good friend who provides labor and know how gratis or for barter.

If your paying Shop Labor rates to have a rare swap done it is going to be expensive.

I have found by far the best way to do any major swap is have the complete donor vehicle close at hand.

No fabrication is needed other than mount the clutch master cyl and enlarge the shift tunnel opening for the 5 speed stick. Same cross member, same drive shafts.
Another member on T4R has already done this exact same swap. Very little wiring is needed due to retaining the ADD and multimode tcase. 4WD works exactly the same. This is easier than swapping in a J type transfer that I would have gotten out of the donor vehicle since I don't have to do an wiring with the 4WD. The only wiring that needs to be done is jumper the Park/Neutral switch from the auto to get it started. There is some optional wiring that can be done: clutch start cancel and cruise control. Lastly I swap out the 4Runner ECM for the same year Tacoma ECM with M/T and my check engine light goes away so I can pass smog in CA. I confirmed this sway is legal in CA with a BAR referee who will give me a sticker once I am done. So all is good!

Then it must be a simple bolt in swap to put this case behind any manual transmission of this age.

But for the simple wiring of the case.

It should be quite popular

Do you need to get new plugs for the ECM or repin the ones you have ??

Swap is now complete and the truck is running with an 02 M/T Tacoma ECM and no CEL. All wiring was done at the no longer needed auto trans plug with the exception of the cruise control at the ECM. I wired this to my clutch from my URD adapter harness for my 7th injector. I chose not to have a clutch cancel switch.
I pulled the bulbs from the gauges on the vsc/trac lights as they no longer function with the Tacoma ECM.

I love this swap especially having the multi mode transfer case keeps the 4wd functioning without any modification.

prepping to do this on my '02 Taco DC. how interchangeable are the transmission system parts from same year and type (4wd 5vz) Tacomaz and 4runners? hence how useful will the write ups in the T4R site be for same job on a Taco. and sourcing parts.
