Another Yota is history
My father wrecked his 85 XtraCab last Friday.
There's nothing really salvageable about the truck, sad to say. He will be pissed - he loved that old truck. It did it's job though, and sacrificed itself to save him.
He will recover, but it was pretty tough going for the past week. I just returned from 6 days at the hospital.
An oncoming semi overturned right in front of him, he had no chance, not even any skid marks. Unbelieveable.
EVeryone please drive careful out there.

glad to hear your dad made it out alive. no broken...anything?! tell him the YT community wishes him well for a speedy recovery...and the 05 tacomas is a good replacement vehicle

what?
not a smart idea?? people drive 20 and 30 year old cars and trucks all the time. theyre not supposed to in case a truck flips over in front of them??

Flamed- Sorry to hear about the accident, but I'm glad to hear your dad's ok! Hope he has a quick recovery.

Ditto what everyone said about your dad! Heartbreaking for the 4runner though...
I think what 4RUNR was trying to say is that there have been a LOT of advances in safety design in the last 20 years. The runner definitely did its job in keeping the driver safe but had this been a 4th gen it probably would have resulted in less injury. Not a bash on the 1st gen just simple truth - the 4th gens are safer to be in than 1st gens.

Happened noonish Friday the 10th, on highway 30 about 10 miles from Astoria Oregon. Blind curve, 45 mph or so when he hit.
Bob, oh yes broken, nearly everything. Broken sternum, ribs broken off from sides of sternum, ribs broken up badly all over in general, broken collarbone, broken bones in face all the way across, broken nose, broken right knee, various bone scrapes, pieces of the dash had to be surgically removed from both legs. He could not breathe on his own, but today they are getting him off the ventilator. Good thing he was still a very active outdoors type, and a big strong guy, even at his age. (67) He will recover. Amazing what they can do, and the people who work in ICU at Legacy Emanuel in Portland are incredible. They even took good care of me all week.

Yeah I can't believe you're driving around in your POS, it doesn't even have side impact airbags! :rolleyes:

That is scary. I hope he makes a quick recovery.

Geez...Broken everything. That's some major trauma. I'm glad he's alive and I'm sorry he's gonna have to spend so much time mending and in physical therapy. But it's amazing what our Doc's can do these days. Good luck to you and your kin.

Flamed-
As weird as it is to type this, the lack of skidmarks might have actually saved his life. Locked brakes might have allowed the truck to slip sideways and roll. Though, I'm sure there were skidmarks elsewhere
