I was wondering how long to stock shocks and springs last? I have a '99 SR5 and it has about 95,000 miles on it. I am probably asking a silly question, but I am not exactly sure. I was interested in getting some progressive lift springs like the ones from performance products to give me about a 1"-1 1/2" lift. But what would you guys recommend? The only off-roading I do is when I pull my dirtbike to the track on a small utility trailer. but I would like an extra inch of clearance so I can put 265/75-16's on my truck. Oh and the runner I am trying to lift is 2wd.

stock springs from a 4wd 3rd generation will give you the lift that you are looking for. Old Man Emu (ARB) has new springs and shocks that are high quality that will raise your truck 2-3 inches. Some other shock and springs manufacturers are Sway-Away, Downey and Blistin. There are spacers available from 1 inch to 3 inches from Cornfed and Revtech. I'm not sure about you being 2wd, but I was able to fit 265/75/16's underneath my truck no problem. No rubbing. As for the shocks and springs, since you don't do heavy offroading, I think they should last you for a while. However I've never had to tow anything so I couldn't tell ya.

Actually you could swap in springs from a 4wd 4runner and it would actually give you an extra 1" or 1.5" of clearance. Ducky is trying to sell his 4wd springs in the classified sectioni.

Just remembered, 2wd models sit lower than 4wd models. So maybe you would need different springs. But if you're going to change our your springs, you might as well change out your shocks. Then you enter an entirely different world of suspensioni lifts!!

as for how long the stock shocks go... i'm runnin' a 97' with 110,000 miles with stock shocks. although they are starting to feel a little mushy now. but i'm sure they'll still be fine for maybe another 5-10 thousand miles.
