Starter Problem odd behavior
Let me just say off that bat that I have been reading through all the starter threads to get some ideas.
The issue: I have a 91 4Runner with a 3.4 swap. From the time I got it, it had a power drain somewhere. The starter issue began last year. I have the usual "click" on ignition without the starter actually running. I replaced the starter with a brand spanking new (not remaned) one. Same trouble. I checked the cables and found the positive cable terminal was corroded at the starter. I put in a new cable. No change. All the ground wires have been cleaned without result. The interesting part of my problem is that I can get it to turn over three or four times in a row after fiddling with the starter wire. I originally thought maybe there was corrosion on the connector, so I cleaned that. After sticking it back on the starter, it would work three or four times before quitting again.
So, to recap, I have a new starter, new cables, power to the starter wire. It will start three or four times in a row, but that's it until I fiddle around with the starter wire again. Now I'm wondering about the starter relay. Is it possible the relay is on its way out and that causes the power drain as well as the intermittent starter problem? If so, can someone give me a pic of the relay and its location? Any ideas are welcome.
Edit: I forgot to add that this thing has gone through three batteries in the last 2 1/2 years. However, the current battery is good, and I'm keeping it disconnected when the truck is not running.
