Another 2.7L longevity thread

As a complementary thread to the "How many miles on your 2.7L" thread, I'm curious, on the other side, how many folks have had horrible experiences with this engine. What kind of catastrophic failure have you seen in this engine, at what mileage, and what were some of the causes (lack of maintenance, general abuse, etc.)?

I guess this could be of interest to those of us with high mileage 2.7's. I'm hoping to not see (m)any responses.

The only problem I had with mine was a cracked exhaust manifold, but it didn't really have any adverse affects. It's common among the 2.7's though.

The best "fix"?

I mean you have to replace it....the BEST fix is to put a header on it! But yes you do have to replace it, overtime it'll cost you big if you dont'.

Dimmer switch, power antenna. J/K nothing wrong with the 2.7l i havent had the cracked exhaust manifold yet, but i already have the required funds saved up to go headers. When did the crack happen for the rest of you, and how did you tell it was cracked ( i am betting it was real obvious)?

Future 2.7L owner here (hopefully). I'm thinking of upgrading to a 2000-2004 Tacoma in the near future and am pretty sure I want to go with the 2.7L since it will be mainly a daily driver. You can get 4x4 with the 2.7L correct? But to my understanding the TRD package is not available with the 2.7L?

Nope, I got the TRD package on my 2.7.

They're out there, just not as many as a 3.4 with TRD off road package.

Well, you have to look around the breather holes of the manifold shields, at least thats how I found mine.

As for the TRD....I made mine into the "TRD" package by adding the upgrades that a typical TRD has like Bilsteins, skid plates, diffs...etc. Then again, there is always the $20 TRD decals that add 50 hp!

Ticking noise... mine was toast around 110k. When I replaced it at 114k there were 3 large cracks in it
