Which Amsoil to run in rear end with a Locker? OK to switch at 125k??

I'm getting tempted to switch out my rear end juice with some good 'ol Amsoil. I figure this would help keep the gears a little coler when towing my 40 around. So my three questions are:

1. Is it safe to switch rear diff fluid to synthetic at 125k?

2. What weight/style should I get with my locker? (I'm in eastern WA so cold winters, and hot summers)

3. What is the capacity of the rear end?

I just did my tranny and plan on slowly switching everything out eventually.

1. You should be fine switching over.
2. You will want Amsoil 80W-90 (Amsoil# AGL-QT)
3. The capacity is about 2.5 quarts, so get three! Good luck!

BTW, you might consider replacing your drain & fill gaskets. The Toyota part# for both is 12157-10070.

no problems from switching to amsoil in a rear end. there's only 3 oil seals and 1 gasket in the whole setup -- not something that's prone to leaking anyway.

Thanks guys!

I went ahead and picked up enough for the tcase and front diff as well. I figured I might as well bite the bullet and do it all at once.

I just hope I don't cause any leaks by switching. I'm assuming that it doesn't matter as much as switching over engine oil at high miles... fingers crossed....

You should be alright. I switch my diffs, tranny and xfer case to 75-90W synthetic and i still have to find any leaks.
