Am I getting a good deal?
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/car/338372028.html
It has 168,*** mileson the 3.4 and an auto, all records, 2nd owner for the last 5 years. I am looking at it Saturday and he said I could have it for $5,000. If it runs as awesome as he says it does, should I buy it?

I agree with Slus, if it's a 4wd it's not a bad deal. Get a price estimate off Edmunds.com before you start negotiations.
168k is pretty high for an auto so make sure the tranny isn't slipping.
The paint looks good, and can be a sign of how well taken care of it is. Tires look good, leather interior is nice. It's a clean looking rig as far as I can tell.
Your profile says, NV, this car is located in Marin County about 3.5 hours west of of the border...all I mean is make sure it's worth the drive. That's two cars there and back, it would be a major bummer to show up and be disappointed.
Don't get me wrong it may be worth the drive. I flew down to LA just three weeks ago for my new 4runner.

I agree. But if it's 2wd i wouldn't buy it with that many miles. They don't hold value nearly as good as 4wd. Theres also too many other factors to know if it's a good deal or not...
Was the timing belt replaced...along with the water pump and all the other recommended internal parts?
What about the..
CV axles?
Diff, tranny, power steering, brake fluids ever been replaced?
Condition of bushings?
Radiator ever been flushed?
Got brakes?
I'd ask the guy a hundred questions before looking at it. I actually flew to CA when i bought my '96 but i couldn't have asked for a better seller...or truck.

It is a 4x4. I am calling him again today and I asked him yesterday to go through his records and tell me when everything was done.

I've got a '97 3.4 Auto w/ 130,000+ k, and love it. If the guy doesn't give up much info, and if it helps, Toyota usually puts a timing belt replacement sticker on the timing belt cover--You may already know that, but it has become the first thing I look for when buying Toyotas( 3 4runners, 1 PU, 1 Corolla) Anyway, I say Buy It if everything looks legit.
