Am I asking too much? Need an opinion.

My family is growing and our 3rd generation 4Runner is getting a little tight. I am looking to upgrade to a 4th generation 4Runner or a Sequoia. So right now I am trying to figure the best price to sell my current 4Runner. Kelly Blue Book has the private party value on a completely stock 4Runner in excellent condition at about $21600. My truck also has TRD S/C w/7th injector, TRD exhaust, TRD tranny cooler, walbro fuel pump, OME springs w/bilsteins, upgraded alarm, and a few other odds and ends. The truck only has 43,000 miles, the tires are practically new bridgestone REVO's, and it also has a transferable 100K mile warranty. I would like to get $22,000 for the truck as it sits right now, and I'm thinking about putting it on ebay with that start price, no reserve. Am I asking too much, or should I just put it back to stock and lower the price?

I would start it much lower but put 22k as a reserve price and see what you get.

agreed. as long as you don't want or need the mods to the 3rd gen, then lower the asking price and keep your reserve. Good luck. sounds like a fair price with the mods and miles.

your short chanigng yourself. Take 2-3 days off of work and take the whole thing back to stock. You can get the stock suspension for $100, and sell the OME for a coupel fo hundred. Remove the supercharger et al for another grand or so. Sel the revos' and throw on some cheap wrangler RT/S for $125 for all four. If you have the expensive two way pager alarm remove that as well and instal it on your new vehicle. Then sell the truck for $21,000. The second you mention that you modified a vehicle your going to to turn off a lot of potential buyers.

I agree with Shahzad, I will never buy a vehicle that already has been modded.
Most people will think it has been abused whether it has or not!

Unless you find a buyer that appreciates the mods, you will not get near what it is all worth.
Most of your buyers will be the soccer mom and dad type who just drive it for the looks/utility.
.....the deckplate is probably the only mod they need.

First off Kelly Blue Book values are most always overstated. That is why most lenders trash can that info immediately. I looked up your rig on an NADA system and your values are: Trade $20,500, Loan $18,500, Retail $23,725. You get no consideration for any of your mods when it comes to book value. Most people are not looking for any mods, and wont appreciate them. If someone can walk into a Toyota dealer and buy this rig for $23,725 or less, there is no way that you can expect to get the same price, unless you find someone who knows something about your mods. Many lenders will loan up to Retail, even if the buyer isnt getting it from a dealer. I would try and sell it here or on one of the other forums first. Then try to market it on Ebay and really promote your mods. There is something to be said for removing the supercharger and selling that separately. Good luck!

Well here's the scoop. The wife and I went to the dealer today and drove the 2005 4Runner sport package with the 4.0L engine. It was a very nice ride, problem is that it really wasn't that much larger than our current 4Runner. Next we test drove a 2005 Sequoia SR5 4wd with the new 282 hp VVTi 4.7L engine. I was sold as soon as I drove it, the power on that truck is saaaaweeeet. The 05 Sequioa would hands down beat my S/C 4Runner in a race. Overall the Sequoia was a much better choice for our situation, even though it was a bit more money.
I ended up trading in my 4Runner for $19000. The dealer is going to take off my S/C and 7th injector kit, which will then be returned to me. A girl I work with has a 2001 4runner sport, and she's going to buy my TRD exhaust, clear corner's and my modded airbox. I'm simply going to throw all of her old stuff on my rig. I'm pulling my OME suspension and re-installing the stock. I'm not too concerned about the tires, b/c I'm getting most the big stuff off of the truck. I'm going to put the TRD s/c and 7th injector kit on ebay for $1500 no reserve. I'lll also post it here if anyone's interested. I'm actually pretty happy with the whole deal. I'm going to make about $21000 between the trade and sale of parts and I'll make another $1500 the money saved for tax and license on the trade as well as the refund of my extended warranty. These dealers will do anything to close a deal at the end of the year.

Joining late, but I'm glad things worked out with your trade and you decided on the Sequoia versus the 4Runner. Don't get me wrong, I love 4Runners. But if a 3rd generation wasn't giving you enough room, a 4th generation wasn't going to cut it.

My wife and I are waiting for Toyota to introduce a fold-flat third row seat on the Sequoia. We'll be first in line.

Good luck, and happy New Year!
