altimeter inclinometer question
the altimeter/inlcometer from the jdm surf is on ebay every once and a while. I noticed that the altimeter only goes to 3,000 feet. I can climb past 3,000feet in an hour in the sierra's, so will this guage just keep climbing and I will have to remember how many times it has spun around, or will it peg it's self at 3,000 feet and stop mooving?
also, the inclinometer is a cool function, but what good does it really do? how do you know how many degree's is too far? once you reach the point of "too far" I think it will be too late to look at the little guage. what do you guys use this for?

My guess is the JDM unit is calibrated in meters, so you're actually seeing up to 9,843 feet.
The inclinometer shows you where the fat person is sitting. I'm thinking it could be handy as a rough guide to the horizon when it's obscured by terrain, weather, or inner ear weirdness.

I am one who believes the inclinometers are very useful. It's always nice to take a look at them and know if you should be getting concerned or not. I'm not sure if the one discussed here is one that stops at 30 degrees, but if so, I think those are useless. Get ones that go to 45, such as the Lev-O-Gages.
Somewhere between 40 and 45 degrees (side to side) is usually the point of no return. If it's a smooth surface, then closer to 45 would be my guess.
