I'm looking to remove my factory running boards, but would like something sleek like sliders. Not looking for something I have to weld on. Is there anything out there that looks cool that I can bolt-on??? thanks

you can bolt on sliders. just fab up a bracket that you weld to the slider and bolt to the frame

How about going for function rather that to just "look cool" ? And if your going in the "cool" direction, weld on is cooler than bolt-on

Sliders are there for protection. Most weld on but some bolt on or could be made to bolt on. If you need/like the step then you could have the sliders mounted flatter.

just want something reversible for when I sell the rig. the slider would be functional as a step as well.

weld on sliders are "easier" to remove than bolt on sliders.. 20 minues with a angle grinder and some paint touch up you'll never know they were there

Bolt on sliders typically require you to drill HOLES in the frame. Those sure as heck ain't reversible.

Especially if you did it right and used scab plates.
Zipped the ones off my 3rd gen and you would have never known they were there.
Damn I miss this truck.

Weld some on! You aren't going to want to sell your 4runner after you start wheeling it. You'll love it. What would you replace it with? A 4th gen?

I chose the sliders from addictedoffroad. Functional and budget friendly. If You want 'cool' + 'functional' and have no budget, then check out Slee Slidersteps. They fab something that gives a look other than the typical round tube utilitaritan look.

If you have access to a welder, then there are plenty of places that sell the same type of slider as a piecemeal kit, which will save you a few bucks.

My two cents here is if you are looking for actual armor that looks "sleek" get your rails from Rocky Road. I have a bolt-on set up from them on my 2006 4Runner and they look great. Plus, these are the thickest rails I have seen (inner wall strength). They have saved me from body work and look the "best" out of any I have seen (cosmetically)

I have a set of "ugly" rails on my wheeling machine (1989 Truck) and they work well but stick out pretty far. I really dont care tho on that rig.

You could also go with weld on/bolt on, this is what I had a local fabshop called Badland Bumpers do for my '91 4Runner I had.

The plates and inner tubes were welded to the rig.
The sliderz had bigger outer tubes that would slider over the smaller diameter tubes that were welded to the rig.

One bolt per tube would secure them.
You can easily take off the sliderz this way to repaint them.

Of course if you sell the rig and put the running boards back on, you would have to cut down the tubes (maybe, maybe not) to put the boards back on.

I got this idea from some guy long ago over on Pirate.
His dad fabbed them up for him this way.
