Allright you engine guys... vacum hose q

There is a check valve on my 94 v-6 4runner that I found has been blown up somehow... literally it looks like it exploded from the inside out. It's a little plastic black and red check valve about half the size of a cork.

My question is... is having this non-functional check valve detrimental to my engine in a serious way? Does it affect performance in a big way?

I'm going to replace it either way, but I was just wondering the the thing does exactly

Where exactly is this check valve? Lack of a functional one can have a big influence on different things. For instance, if the one on the brake booster line wasn't there, you'd have no brakes after accelerating. Not good. They wouldn't have put it in there if it wasn't necessary.

it goes into the top of the engine head, right next to where the egr valve vacuum hose enters the engine
