All Pro Rear Disc Brake Kit removes parking brake!

installed the all pro rear disc brake conversion on my 02 4wd 4runner, it makes me stop a LOT better, i like the kit (besides the fact that it took alot of communication with all pro and a couple new pieces from all pro to get it to fit) i just no longer have a parking brake, and those nice loud hard jolts when i shift on a hill make me worried im hurting something important.

so... how do i fix this? besides getting new calipers? i know that all pro sells a transfer case parking brake, but does that only work in 4wd? they dont make one for my year yet, anyone have something custom?? its a pain to try and get out to take pictures when the truck rolls backwards or forwards....

drvic on TTORA is working on a t-case parking brake for tacomas, but it would take some work to adapt it to a 4runner. tacomas use the under dash pull style parking brake, while 4runners use the center console lever.

that's the closest you're going to get until you make it yourself.

it may be weird though since the e-brake cable starts behind the t-case...

and no, it would not work in just 4wd. its attached to the rear output, so it doesnt matter what the t-case is in.

I was planning on going a different route and use the disc brakes from a 4th gen. The only difference in mounting that I can see without taking one apart is the 4 mounting tabs on the axle, one of them is longer than the other 3. Plan was to extend one of the tabs. Now that the FJ is out I may just wait til I find a complete rear axle assembly with e-locker and just swap the whole assembly over....

I always wondered about 4th gens, but do they have something on the caliper for an e-brake or is it inside the disc like a mini drum setup (which I have seen on alot of the newer cars/trucks with rear discs)?

Anyone have any pics of 4th gen rear discs or the e-brake mechanism on them?

Are you talking about shifting from park to reverse or park to drive when on a hill?

The reason I ask is that I park on a hill almost daily and when I need to reverse, I hear a clunk from park to reverse. If I let her ease into the gear, I have no issues. Once, I put her into reverse and let go of the foot brake pretty quickly, and it made the most loud grinding noise. After that incident, I let her into gear before driving off or hitting the gas. Maybe this will help if you are experiencing the same thing.

i mostly feel it from park to reverse, but depending on how i park, i sometimes hear it in drive. i always let it get into gear before i move the vehicle, but as soon as i switch from park, it sounds like something is about to break. i live in north florida so there arent too many hills, but i still want to prevent sounds like that from occuring.

i never used to use my ebrake until i hit 100k and realized that im not getting another vehicle until i am WELL out of college before i can even think about getting another car. and until recently, i lived in a very flat part of florida, which required almost no ebrake no matter what. i heard something about sky offroad getting ready to release a transfer case brake for 3rd gen 4runners, but dont know when they will do that.... i might have to change calipers, becasue i need my e brake!!!

There's a mini drum cable actuated like our 3rd gens, so making it work wouldn't be that difficult. Another option I've been tossing around is have Diamond Axle make up a rear end using the 4th gen brakes with a 3rd gen e-locker...

That would be awesome. How expensive would that be?
