aisin hubs
Question,
I have come across a set of Aisin hubs that do not have the bolts cone washers or lock washers that attach them to the wheel. Are these parts already in there with the ADD hubs? Could I get these from a deal cheap? I have a 94 4runner with ADD and am looking at doing the Aisin manuel switch over.

They may be there. The dealer gets about $5 each cone/stud package (times 12 to do both sides). I bought my own bolts at ACE to mount the cap on the hub.

The studs are in your hub, the cone washers and flat washers and nuts are on your ADD flange. So If the hubs are complete (hub body and hub cover w/selector knob, all bolted together) you should be set.

Awesome thanks guys. Now I just need to find another set. The ones I were Eyeing were on Ebay, and somebody just snatched them up. Oh well I was planning on waiting till spring to do this anyway, its too cold outside in Utah to do em now, and I would probably drive around with em locked most the time anyway. Gives me plenty of time to look. That yotayard quoted me 40 bucks a piece for them.

are you refering to the dome shaped cap on the very end of the hub? if so, just take a bfh and flat screw driver and tap around the edge of the domed cap where it joins the main body of the thin hub cover. once it starts to separate, you can pry it off. then loosen the nuts to the thin hub cover, DO NOT REMOVE THESE NUTS! take the bfh and give the main part of the hub a good wallop at each stud location to loosen the cone washers. you may have to smack it pretty solidly several times for them to pop loose. once the are all loose you can remove the nuts, washers and cone washers. instll your manual hubs with either oem gaskets or some people use rtv (?) sealant. torque main body nuts to 23 ft/lbs and cap screws to 7 ft/lbs. you shouldnt need to add any grease but inspect in any case.

Thanks Leebee that is what I was looking for. You gotta love the bfh!!!! Best tool I have ever owned lmao.
Flamedx4 I have read that in many places. I will make sure I get the IFS hubs when I find a decent price.

hubs
I think that there is a 1.5" of difference per side in-between the 79-85 solid and the 86-95 ifs hubs. Some people do a switch on the solid to ifs to get that 1.5"s instead of wheel spacers.

How many splines does yours have? I have a set of aisins that I bought off ebay for my solid axle. They don't fit on my axle (wrong splines). I'll check with my buddy and see if they fit his IFS. If so, do you want to trade the center gears? (the housings are the same...just the inside gear is different)

When I tried to install them last night, the hub housing slid on until it was about 1/4" away from mating up flush with the axle assembly. WTF I thought. Then I noticed that the entire wheel assembly was free wheeling (not turning the axle) no matter which position the hub was in (locked or unlocked). Well the hub can't turn the axle if the splines are different sizes and don't engage!! Duh
Yea, I would be willing to trade center gears. According to my info the 2nd gen IFS needs a 27 spline (edit 26 spline) gear.

Separate question:
Does the small gold bolt and washer that goes on the end of the axle get re-installed when you put the manual hubs on. Doesn't look like it serves any purpose with the manual hub.

Thanks for checking, anybody else have a pair or 27 spline (Edit 26 spline just counted and got a set from Cebby today) Aisins they want to trade for a set of 30 spline??
Man I have to get some manual hubs on quick! I swear, as I'm driving around town, it feels like the front tires are skidding/sliding whenever I drive over one of those steel plates that separates a bridge deck from the normal road surface. With the snow we just got, I feel the same thing on snowy/icy patches. I must have a LOT of resistance in the front driveline now that I added the BJ spacers to have the wheels skid on slippery surfaces. Anybody else notice this?!?
