air box mod

i cut out the front of my airbox this morning similar to gadgets air box mod http://www.gadgetonline.com/airinduction.htm#Modified Air Box: has anyone else done this or have they gone with the deck plate? i chose this route because i don't go offroad and i shouldn't see any deep water. if anyone else has done this mod, did you notice a difference in engine noise when accelerating? also i live in south louisiana where it is very humid. this mod shouldn't cause a problem off being too lean would it?

I think everyone here has done the deckplate or some form of it allowing the hole to be re-sealed when applicable.

Noise wise, yes, you should hear more coming from under the hood. This it the sound of the air being sucked in through the hole. Getting more air into an engine is generally a good thing.

yeah I ran with the deck plate (open) and an amsoil foam filter for about 6 months and noticed a slight difference in sound, hardly any in throttle response... Then I did the ISR mod and replaced the silencers with pvc end caps to streamline the air and MAN, that thing sounds like a V8 now!!! And i definitely noticed a slight increase in throttle response. I know it may seem daunting but it aint' hard, it's cheap and it's worth it. Do both mods to get the full effect.

I have the lower corner cut out of my box, giving me a 4x4 open section. Did you put some drain holes in the bottom of the box? I filled the box with water and drilled 1/4" holes in the bottom until all of the water drained out, that gave me a better feeling just in case. I have run with the airbox cutout for over a year now. Yes you should hear an increase in sound. I haven't had any problems in the summer time with humidity, but I live in MD where yes it gets humid but not like S. Louisiana.

1) You will notice a slight difference but the ISR will be VERY noticable.

2) Without a S/C you have virtually no chance of leaning out.
