Advice on CV boots?
I cranked my torsion bars up to 14.5" wheel to fender several weeks ago. To save the CV joints, I ordered a set of manual hubs from toyotapartsdude.
They've been sitting on my workbench for several weeks waiting to be installed. I finally bought gaskets and threw a fresh coat of paint on them today.
Here's the problem. I've driven 300 miles or so and have begun to feel vibration and hear noise coming from the passenger front wheel. I looked under today and saw grease all over the CV boot and wheel well. I didn't see a tear, but I couldn't get all the way under the truck. I've been nursing some sore leg muscles this week (long story).
I'm guessing that the CV joint is already shot. However, if I put the manual hubs on now, will the noise and vibration go away? It seems like it should, since the axle will stop turning. Also, if I go off roading in this condition, how quickly will I tear it up?
I'm supposed to drive to Colorado soon for a class and am planning to meet a friend there for some wheeling. I just don't think I'll have time to fix the problem before I leave. If I really do need to fix it, any cheap recommendations?
