Advice on 04 Tacoma

I have been looking a new pickup truck and drove an 04 Dcab 4X4 Tacoma. Two questions.

1. The transmission didn't shift as smooth as my 4runner. Is this normal for a Tacoma?

2. There have been several posts on the Tacoma seats. Do the seats get better with time? I wasn't uncomfortable on the 25 mile test drive, but when I got out my lower back was stiff.

My 98 4runner has ruined me. No other vehicle seems good enough.

Thanks in advance for your input on the two questions.

I've got a 98 4Runner and my has a 04 D-cab. The Tacoma has a bit harser ride (its a truck afterall) and is a bit louder. Regardless, I really like driving it a great deal. The transmissions are essentially the same, so I don't know what is up with that. If anything, our Tacoma (15k) shifts a little better than the 4Runner (75k)

As for the seats, they are better than the 1997 Tacoma we had, but not as good as the sports seats in my 4Runner. I've done 6 hours straight, no problem, but that is longest trip we've taken in the Tacoma. I think the build quality is not as good as the 4Runner. Don't know if it is a Japan (4runner) vs. California (Taco) thing. But the fit of the dash just isn't a good as the 4Runner.

Bottom line, if you like the 4Runner, I think you'll have no problem with the Taco.

Hope this helps a little.
