99 runner rear spring recall info needed

Hey Guys,
My buddy just went in to Toyota to get the sagging rear springs replaced in his runner.
The service guy told him he needed a recall form or similar paperwork to get it done?
Sounds like a brush off to me.
Any advice?
Thanks
Kenny S

It does not include 99+ 4runners..He could have easily looked it up and told you:you got an idiot writer at the dealer.

Manufacture Dates: 11-20-95 through 02-28-98 qualify for Campain:

Not all 99's were covered as Toyota fixed the problem during the year. The new ones are just as bad.

He is probably better off replacing them with 880's from OME. I did and love them. You can actually tow something that weighs more than 5 lbs. Not to mention, I can hang my bike off a of a hitch hauler. If he is hauling something with more tongue weight, he can get some air bags which fit inside the springs.

In short, avoid the dealer.

880s would be for front application. 881s/882s are some other choices for fronts.

890s are typically the rear application favored by a lot of Old Man Emu converts-891s if you are looking for a stiffer ride and more rear lift.

yeah, i got the notice for my 01/98 model, but surprisingly after almost 170k miles, my rear sits slightly higher than the front, so i said NO to the recall, as i didn't want to risk getting bad springs

I just got back from having my lcal Toyota dealer install these on my 4Runner. I didn't have any form or warranty paperwork. Just called them and asked them to check to see if I had any recalls that needed to be done on my runna. They told me that still needed to be done, made me an appointment and installed them no questions asked.

One thing I owuld liek to see though... That paper that is attached is for the 4runners that came factory with 225 tires. I would liek to see the part number for the rear springs with 265 tires. Want to make sure I got the right springs.

The springs I got were: 48231-35151

Cant find any info on them in the search here or google(other than "rear spring")...

Looks like

it's a 1998 4Runner rear spring for 16" wheels. I think you got the right part.

cool beans.... The service guy that took my info was sketchy about which spring to give me even though the door says 265... I just didn't want to get the wrong part..

And what sucks........ I got no lift out of the new springs. Going to check my air and measure again..
