Unhappy 98 taco 5spd clutch spring

My clutch spring is making a wrenching noise every time I use it. I was told that is is a nylon bushing between the clutch pedal and the spring. I need to know how to replace it and even a p/n would be killer.

pitchfork,

i did a write up on this: http://www.4runners.org/articles/clutchbush

make sure you check out the tech section. there are a ton of good articles there from the peanut gallery.

regarding my article, there are two major shortcuts you can take if you can manage it:

1) you do not have to move the evap box if you dont need to...provided you have the right tools to remove the master cylinder reservoir

2) if you can manage to compress the spring w/o removing the clutch assembly, you don't have to pull the whole thing out. one guy emailed me and said he used some sort of home-built spring compression thing to do this, but given that there are a ton of wires down there, i did not want to even attempt what he did.

Bob, you rule. Looks like a hellish job but it must be done. This plastic bushing is a real weak spot. Lovin Toyota 4 that. Anyway, thanks for the quick reply. On a side note, I just rebuilt my PC and need to load Acrobat reader to check the price you sent me on the amsoil filters. I'll be in touch.

pitchfork,

yeah, it is a lot of work to replace one simple part, but follow the instructions and you should not have a problem. and wear goggles because that spring is under alot of tension.

i can send you the quote via microsoft word doc too. just let me know.
