98 T4R Collar nut just would not fit S13WE caliper?

Guys,

I have one OEM Rotor & S13WE Caliper installed on the truck, but just cannot get the collar nut to fit, does something needs to be trimmed?

I have read a few DIY and threads on it, but do not recall anyone else having this problem, a search did not turn up anything.

Should I just buy new brake lines for Tundra?

I will try to to post a pic of the brake line end as soon as my camera finishes charging?

No trimming needed for the nut. Are the threads boogered in the caliper or on the nut? If you were to buy a new brake line you'd buy it for the (assuming you're working on a) 3rd gen 4Runner.

Collar nut? Do you mean the fitting/nut at the end of that hard brake line? Is so, once properly aligned it should thread in with no problem.

Well, unless habanero is onto something with boogered threads.

^Yep the nut at the end of the brake line. Ah!, I wish I had checked the threads on the caliper before installing them. Oh well I still have the old items at hand.

Possible to check with a 10mm bolt, if the threads on the caliper are ok, without having to take it off?

Smile

Sometimes these can be a real pain to start.

Try with just a extra flare nut not on a line .

See if that threads in without any problems .

I have noticed with some rebuilt calipers threads get burred but most often clean up if your careful.

Seriously. Sometimes you just gotta hold your mouth right. Those fittings assemble perpendicularly and if you are off just the slightest or boogered the threads they won't start. I bought a set of metric taps for each common size on Toyotas and now habitually clean out old threads when putting things back together. It makes an old bolt go in an old nut like butta.

Good advice here. You can get a metric tap and die set from autozone for about $30. Not the greatest, but it has served me well so far, better than I expected. Gotten lots of use for cleaning threads.

For me it's eyebrow configuration. Metric tap set is a nice thing to have around, know it's saved me a few headaches. Good call as usual, Wabbit.

What is it with women and eyebrow configurations? My wife has those looks too. Even my boys have noticed it and asked me about it. I just told them when the eyebrows move, it's too late, you're already in trouble for something.

Many thanks guys, just got done with both sides. The first side still gave me a hard time but after about 20 mins of minor bending in various directions it worked. The entire drivers side took about 30 mins (including taking the old one off:=)....not complaining though.

Now just need to bleed n bed the brakes and I will have my new 199mm calipers, & rotors/pads. Cant wait to try out the new setup

if you unbolted the line from the knuckle, u wouldn't have to bend anything around until you are finished plumbing the caliper...
