98 Runner Oem/hella Fog Light Problem
hey fellas...
i have a 98 runner with factory fogs and both lenses were cracked about a few months ago from road debris. since they've been cracked, they didn't work even though the dash rocker switch lights up when turned on.
so today i replaced both lamp assemblies and still no go. the rocker switch light turns on, but the fog lights remain out. i've also done the following:
1) the bulbs look intact as they are new and the filiments are in place
2) the fuse in the wiring harness is fine
3) i've inspected the wire harness from lamp to dash and all looks good, even though i understand this is not a scientific test
4) there is no significant corrosion on the two connectors which attach to the back of the lamps
so based on some prior posts, that leaves me focused on the relay. the only problem is that i am unable to find any part numbers (bosch or hella) which refer specifically to the OEM fog light wiring harness. i don't want to torch my runner so i'm hopping someone can point me to the right relay.... or suggest an alternate approach.
thanks much!

Sorry to hijack, but I was just wondering if you bought a whole new assembly or just the lenses? I too have a broken one, but it still works so I am looking for just the lense. Thanks!!

The only place I was able to find a relay was at the dealership. Its a special order part. I looked at auto parts stores and even on hella's website and couldn't find one.
If you dealer cannot get you one, let me know and I will get one for you.
If you get just the lens, you will need to take it glass apart from the housing and re-seal it. I have not done this yet.
I have ordered the entire housing to replace the two that broke...

OEM Hella Fog Lamps
it's the first item listed. they arrived in great shape.
jason b: as for the the circuit tester, i don't have one.
SLC Punk: i wrote to hella and they said the relay for my lamps could be found at any NAPA or auto parts store... contrary to your experience. i doubt they gave my email much thought, but i'll pop out the relay and try anyway. how much would you charge to ship the the relay to boston, ma 02114?

I ordered a new housing from performance products. But the dealer can also get you one.
redlab: I think the relay cost $8 and shipping would be a few bucks.. I am not in SLC right now, but I will call my parts guy when I get back and give you a price.
