98 4runner running rough misfire on cyl 4
Our 4runner has turned into a dog, it is running rough (nearly dies) and it is lacking power. It has 140k on it now. the plugs and wires were done right before I bought it at about 102k. The fuel filter had never been done so I went ahead and did that but it did not improve the issue. What should I check next?

Welcome to my life. 2 weeks ago my truck did the same thing but P0302 on cylinder #2 just a day after replacing the fuel filter. I thought I had moved some dirt into the injectors but it turned out to be an electrical failure inside the injector. Funny enough I ohm tested them all and saw no difference even on #2. But when I sent them to WitchHunter for a tune-up, they said #2 had a bad coil. I spent Saturday replacing the fuel injectors on the driver's side. I only wanted to pull off the intake plenum once so I did all three on the driver's side with remanufactured injectors from Rockauto.com GB Reman. $29 ea plus core. It fixed the problem and I only wish I had just bought all 6 at the same time. The plenum gaskets are cheap at $9 ea from Toyota.

now I know it is not just me...
Ok! I got misfire with code P306 cyl 6 misfire.
swapped coil and reset code and still getting p306
swapped spark plug and reset code and still getting p306
checked wires and ohmed all seem ok.
Now, the only thing left is something related to fuel supply.... I wonder where I should start...
By the way, I was going to anyway replace coils because it seems only 19bucks in Amazon.

has anyone tried this autopartpro from amazon?
I feel a little skeptical....
Anyone?

ok! did "hearing arc" test and confirmed that there is strong "spark" in the coil and wire to number 6 cylinder (p306).
As DRCoffee suggested, it appears that the problem is somewhere in fuel supply (fuel injector) side. Thanks bunch to DRCOFFEE.
Now, questions are where/which parts to buy etc.... whole new start from scratch.....

Before your order any parts, switch the #2 and #6 spark plugs. Sometimes you can get a faulty plug. If its still inchanged then buy a fuel injector.

Thanks DRCOFFEE
already swapped number 6 spark plug with other others but no change in the faulty code : still p306....
By the way, what are the parts that I have to order?
6 injectors and crush washers are all I need?
I believe we can reuse throttle body/plenum gaskets/bolts...
Another point is, when you experienced mis-fire, did it happen only in warm engine/weather?.
Even today, I only experience mis-fire ONLY when car is warmed up under sunny weather. In cold morning, it starts fine, idles fine and even drives fine/smooth for a while until car gets warmed up....
Also, I am thinking about doing Seafoam tomorrow before ordering parts (anyway it will take some time to arrive), because just hoping if it could clean injectors etc. Anyway noticed black soot-y residue in throttle intake... hasn't done fuel injector cleaning for the past 10 years... hhh what do you think?

You dont need to remove the throttle body. The easier way I found when doing mine was to disengage the cables from the throttle plate cams. Roll them forward and slip off the cable from the cam. Don't remove the cables from the brackets, but remove the brackets from the intake plenum (3 bolts). This way way you won't have to set it up again. I would buy 2 new intake plenum gaskets, they are only $8 each at toyota. You can buy GB reman. fuel injectors for $29ea at rockauto and they come with the o-rings installed. The only thing you will need to do, is lube the o-rings with vasoline before installing them. What I learned was to twist the old ones before trying to remove them. The injectors were fairly easy to install but a word of caution, if you dont buy 6 new injectors, buy enough extra o-rings for the old injectors before installing them. Again, rockauto has Felpro o-rings $4
This helped me. valve-cover-gasket-thread-2.html#post973525
Mine would start up fine but once it was at running temp the injector would act up and start bucking. Mine was a bad elctrical coil inside the injector and no matter how much I cleaned it, it wouldn't have helped. If I were you, I wouldn't drive it until it gets fixed. Fuel is also a lubricant in the cylinder and with a bad injector you are running the cylinder dry. Focus on one problem at a time. If you start monkeying with other things like the throttle intake and it causes another problem it will take you weeks to trouble shoot the problem. A lot of guys, me included had a high idle problem after cleaning the throttle body because the carbon runs into the IAC valve. Hold off until this one is resolved. just my 2 cents.

ok! let me add another success story (probably...)
Just replaced 6 injectors with reman units.
I believe all took less than 3 hours. 10 miles of test-driving confirmed there is no more shake or rumbling.
will see if it continues to hold like that.... so far so good.
Thanks a lot to all (thanks bunch to DRCOFFEE of course...).
