97 tacoma help CEL on
I just bought a 97 Tacoma extra cab v6 4x4. 2nd day after i got it the CEL came on steady. I had autozone pull the codes and its showing p0130 and p0133. Ive searched for this issue and am seeing lots of information on these codes but don't know what or how to check first. I did open and close the gas cap just in case and nothing. I did not reset the codes after that though. didn't know if i needed to. any help would be appreciated.
thanks,

Welcome to Yotatech!
It sounds like the previous owner didn't want to change the O2 sensor, so he sold it to you. Did you see this? https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f128...e-codes-76363/
According to that, it looks like an O2 sensor is bad. It looks like there are lots of O2 sensors going out lately on Yotatech. I've been lucky - i've never had to change one.
FYI, the gas cap can make your CEL come on, but resetting is the only thing that will turn it off now. If you do reset, and the light comes back on soon, it's time to start wrenching.
Good luck!

Usually the ECM will allow for a code to occur twice before CEL comes back on.
Meaning... you'll have two turns of the key before code reappears, assuming the error is still there.

Most codes are what is called '2 trip'. The ECU needs to see what it considers 2 full drive cycles and if the fault happens within those drive cycles, it will set a code. Now if you have a open wire, something disconnected or something blatantly wrong, it will usually come on right away

Well I got under the truck to take off the o2 sensor and found out the wiring plug looks impossible to get to! In the how to thread from ultimate Toyota it shows the plug in plain site on the pic (which I assumed was close to the sensor) but on my truck the wires come out of the sensor and go straight up and over the transmission. Like the plug is somewhere on top of the transmission and just under the truck frame. It’s such a tight place I can’t even fit my hand in there or even see the plug. And you can’t see it from up top because it’s too far back in the engine compartment. I have no idea how to get to this thing. Maybe it is in plain sight and I’m just not seeing it? I tried following the wires but I can’t go too far because it goes into that tight place above the tranny. Any suggestions?

No, but that is the worst part of the job by far.
