97 Runner 3.4 Runs rough
I have a 97 runner 3.4 auto 4x4.
I have cleaned the IACV,MAFS, and dropped new plugs in it not too long ago along with a new O2 sensor.
Runs rough in the morning and smooths out after a bit. Just recently it started cutting out real bad under a load. up hills or under hard accleration it felt like it was starving for fuel. it did slightly overheat a couple times last week but nothing that caused too much headache. has not overheated since.
OK After searching and searching i am gonna start tackiling this pita.. I'm gonna start easy and cheap before i start dumping bucks!
If anyone has any words of wisdom im open for anything..
AND..... To top it off took it to a friend for his opinion today and it ran like a champ the whole time! NO ISSUE!! WTF???

Give this a try, when the vehicle is on a col start take a bottle of carb cleaner and spray it around the intake manifold. A leaking intake gasket can cause this problem by starting out rough then expanding when hot properly sealing agian then making the vehicle run fine agian.

Bad or grounding out plug wires will cause the conditions you reported. Get yourself a new set and replace them one at a time so they don't get mixed up. Make sure the wires are secured in their clips and not touching any metal.

I presume it is not throwing any check engine codes.
If not I always recommend folks consider a new fuel filter. There is some debate that the filter is a 'lifetime' part but having seen the black gunk that comes out of old ones I scoff at that notion.
Also I would not ignore the overheating issue.
Good luck-you have several of us interested. Please let us know what develops.

Why Yes Mr. Wabbit it did.. Each time i tried something new it seemed like it was just a bandaid for a bit.. It has not even really gotten too hot.. Just hotter then normal.. a couple times i heard heat gurgles.. has thrown no codes at all. I'm thinkin my HG is going south. I have had to top off the radiator now 2 times in the last week. with nothing more then a couple quarts. That is too much coolant to lose with NO indication of leaking. I think im just gonna "keep on keepin on" until I know for sure WTH?
It does have about 240,000 miles on it so maybe its time to start lookning into a motor if i have a blown HG...
