97 Cup Holder Removal

Help! I go the facia off, but how do I get the cupholder out? I have a replacement, but I can't figure how to get the old one off to put the new one in.

Thanks.

Go from the backside and GENTLY pry up the two little "tabs" holding it in. You'll need to be firm, but gentle. Just slide it out and take a look-see on what holds it in, I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Got it this morning. Ended up removing the vent piece as well to get in there.

Thanks for the help.

I just got a replacement for mine too ($12.00 on ebay)! I'm not sure from this thread what needs to be done though. It looks like there are two tiny little tabs on either side of the unit that hold it in. Am I hearing that you have to remove the entire facia peice (that surrounds the cupholder, vents, HVAC controls, and radio)? Or can it be worked from the front?

No you have to remove the entire front bezel to remove the cupholder....it's not as big of a deal as it sounds.

Just got in from doing this. It took all of 10 minutes. Actually you do not have to take the whole bezel out or remove the vents as others have suggested. Just pull it a few inches away from the dash - you avoid having to unplug a bunch of stuff. To get the old cupholder out, just reach in with some pliers, brake the tabs off and pull it out. You're going to toss the broken one anyway. Slide the new one in till it clicks in place, put the bezel back and replace the HVAC panel and switch knobs. Done.

An interesting side note is that the new cupholder I got was from a '98 and the part that drops down to hold the bottom of the cup is wider and thicker than the one from my '97. Not sure if this will make any difference in how it holds the cup, but we'll see.
