97 4Runner rear suspension

97 4Runner rear suspension
Need some help with a problem. Took my 97 4Runner 4wd sr5 into local dealer a couple months back for some routine maintenance. I was told my vehicle never had the rear suspension recall done so I had them order the parts and do it even though there wasn't any problems with it. Ever since then the rear seems to be lower than it was before; I took it back to the dealer and they said it looked normal. Last week I took it to another toyota shop, not a dealer, and they said the springs and 'cone springs' looked new but it was riding on the cone springs and that the recall work must not have been done right. i read on here and elsewhere on the internet that 2wd springs are shorter than the 4wd springs and was wondering if they might have used the 2wd springs by mistake. I'm reluctant to take it back to the dealer since they already said it 'looked normal' once. Was hoping someone on here might have had a similar situation or maybe an experience which would help me figure out what went wrong and how to correct it. Thanks.

If you are saying the cone is touching the axle inside the coil then that is bad and any dealer who says otherwise is horrible. That is an additional bump stop they added so you have no suspension if it is touching. I had the recoil done before the lift and it was nowhere near touching.

thanks for the replies, the part listed on the invoice is SPRING, COIL, RR 48231-35141. I'll do an internet search to see if I can find what this spring number is made for but maybe you can tell me as well. I looked at the coil springs and could see the black rubber cone-shaped thing inside the coil which I guess is what the other shop is calling the 'cone spring'; I'll look again to see if it is touching the axle. i'm supposed to go back to the dealer tomorrow and just want to be as informed as possible.

Thanks. Took it in and they were jerks at the dealer when I told them they put the wrong parts on; they said something about this part number superceded that part number and didn't even look at the information on part numbers that I had. I left without having them do anything to mess things up more. Anyone have any experience going to another dealer to have recall/warranty work fixed when the first dealer messed up?
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

unfortunately, i already called the corporate number 18003314331 and they were of no help at all. they just told me that I had to go back to that dealer to resolve things and that they couldn't force the dealer to do anything; meanwhile I found out that they put the wrong springs(recall work) and the wrong shocks(paid for work) on my vehicle. I was just hoping someone had some experience with doing to another dealer to have incorrect recall work repaired/corrected.

thanks for the replies. Was wondering if anyone knows if the difference between the 48231-35141 spring used for the vehicles with 15" wheels and the 48231-35151 spring used for the vehicles with 16" wheels would change the height of the rear end? The only reason that I even noticed a problem is because my 4Runners rear end looks low and am not sure if these two springs are even that different as far as height/length to cause it to look lower.

I wish I could get some free springs from toyota...the runner really needs some! Mine are definitely original but according to toyota's site there are no open recalls on it. sigh...
