97 3.4 won't start...
Hey Guys,
First I wanted to thank all of you for the great information on this forum.... Now I'm in a bit of a pickle that I can't seem to figure out. I went fishing about a month ago in frigid temps and my truck wouldn't start after a few hours. Thinking it was a blow fuse which has happened from time to time I wasn't too concerned, only this time the fuse wasn't blown. After getting my 97 4runner 3.4 towed we came to the conclusion it was the fuel pump. We replaced the fuel pump. It fired up for a second then I noticed a fuel leak so we shut it off. After that we couldn't get it to fire back up again.... I got side tracked after checking the timing belt so I went through and replaced the timing belt. Now I've replaced the fuel pump, timing belt, and drive belts... Still no dice?
The fuses are fine... any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

How are you checking the fuses? Just looking at them is not sufficient we find.
All ground wires in place and tight?
All electrical connections/plugs clean and in place?
Injectors firing?
Injectors have fuel?
Just to clarify, the engine turns over but does not fire up?
Welcome to YT.

Pulling them and looking at the fuses... Thanks for the reply I'll check everything you mentioned in the morning and see what I come up with. I'm working on my 4runner between working on big trucks so sometimes I'm a bit distracted when I'm wrenching on it.

Fire wall to passenger side head
Driver side upper plenum just to lower left of diagnostic box
Battery neg terminal to fender
Battery neg to block (can't remember where attachment point is at the moment)

Have or can you swapped the EFI fuse?
I have no idea what the ether would do to the MAF.
Maybe disconnect the neg battery terminal and crack the fuse box apart to be sure everything is tight under there.

Hey Guys thanks for all the advice....
So here's a quick recap of what I did and still couldn't get it running. Replaced fuel pump, fuel filter, timing belt, water pump, plugs and wires, and all the drive belts. I checked all the grounds and fuses and everything appeared to be fine. I wasn't pulling up any codes and finally go frustrated enough to pull the ECU and see if there was something visibly jacked up after pulling the covers off. The ECU looked fine, everyone I talked to said it was rare for them to go out but occasionally they'll get damaged and it would be easy to spot after pulling the covers.
At a loss I drove up the street and talked to an automotive guy(I'm a diesel mechanic) he said occasionally they'll enter into what he said was flood mode. He advised me to hold the gas pedal to the floor and just keep turning it over until it fired up. After about 4 minutes it fired up and has run great since then. Have you guys ever heard of that? I tried priming the system with turning the key on for a bit then turning it off and repeating... When I first replaced the fuel pump and it wouldn't fire.
Again thanks for all the advice! I've got 290,000 miles on my 4runner and plan on keeping her alive for years to come.

I had similar problem about 7 yrs ago. Sent it to a shop where they diagnosed the fuel pump with a guarantee on work. Same problem reoccurred 5 times within a year. They picked up the tow and repair costs but kept replacing the fuel pump. They never figured it out and I was tired of the down time and being stuck so I found time to work on it. It was an intermittent fuel pump plug.
