96 Tacoma 3.4 5VZE Head Gasket Installation - need help
Hello,
#1 - awesome site. Thank you
2nd - I have a 96 Tacoma, 143K, 3.4, 4x4. Noticed some antifreeze mysteriously missing over the past 6 months, none on the floor and checked for leaks. Visual head gasket check shows some gunk on the passenger side head but dealer says no..just oil build up so with the actual SSC in hand that states my VIN# was apart of the gasket recall that I was never notified about I got the: "sorry sir - even through we would have replaced it before with the special service recall, that recall ended in 04 and only covered an external coolant leak on the gasket". So only way for them to know if it's leaking internally is to pull the heads which is $1300 which would not be covered. Truck runs great, no white smoke, no milky residue under the oil cap. I'm just trying avoid an possible head gasket blowout while i'm in the most aweful spot. I've replaced a head gasket on my old 86' 22R and it was easy. This one is obviouly a bit more to tackle but i still feel confident I could do it just to be on the safe side.
Does anyone know of a link that has step by step instructions with pics on how to replace the head gaskets on a 95.5-2004, 3.4 V6 Tacoma?
if not, does someone have an actual Toyota Service Manual that they could post in a .pdf format just the pages that cover this? I've searched as much as possible but could not find anything on this site.
Thank you
