'96 4runner CD deck
I recently removed my cd deck and I totally forgot about the code you need to reinstall the unit. I cannot find where I put the code so my deck isn't being used right now. Is there any other way to "reset" the code or something? My dad called the dealership and they said it would cost like 30 dollars?! I said no because I might as well spend money on an aftermarket deck if I was gonna spend 30 dollars just to use the stock headunit. My friends say I should keep trying to bother the dealership to get it for free? Is there anyway they can tell that I didn't steal the deck by looking at the serial of the deck and my cars vin # ? (if i were to steal a deck i don't think it would be a stock deck btw) thanks for all your help and this is my first time posting :]

i think you can prove it isnt stolen, but im not sure. i just know thats how it was on my old saab 9000. getting that code was free.
you should change to an aftermarket regardless of how this works out.

I told the dealer that I had called toyota, and was told that the work was usually done as a courtesy because it is done so often. They have the codes on hand. Mine was even locked out b/c the wrong code was used 10+ times.
They did it in about 2 minutes (and it was barely even installed, just wired in hanging below my aftermarket deck). When they were done I got a kind "Merry xmas, happy newyear, happy birthday, NOW GET OUT OF HERE"..

just find the name of a local used car dealership, such as i used to work for luxury auto sales, just tell the dealer that you work for them and the battery died in a 4runner and you have a customer purchasing the vehicle and they would like the cd player working, and they should give it to you for free.
