881's & stock shocks

I did some searching but couldn't really find my answer.
When installing 881's and using the stock strut (temporarily), do you lose any lift because of the "preload" on the springs??? -I imagine with a taller strut, you don't have to compress the springs as much to get them on there.- Or does the weight of the vehicle compress the spring to the same level no matter how much or how little the spring is compressed into the strut?
I'm thinking the weight of the vehicle will compress it to the same level no matter what. Just wanted some expert advice.

Thanks in advance for your input,
Luke

P.S. - the 285's are going on in a few hours! Fingers crossed for control arm clearance.

I just put those on last week. They are struts and the OEM ones are no longer then the after market ones. Its a real bitch to compress the coils, good luck!!

Yeah, I've got them installed already; it was a pain but fortunately I had access to a wall mount spring compressor. So, the OME & tokico's are not much longer than the stock struts? I thought the aftermarket struts would be taller.

Tokicos are similar to stock, the OME's are longer. This won't have any effect on ride height though assuming the stock shock's spring perch is in the same location relative to the lower shock mount as they are on the OME shocks. I haven't set them side by side so I can't answer that definitively.
