880/906 Today!

To Start I own a 3rd gen Sport
Well after about a month of going back and forth I finally decided what to do about some sagging springs and balding tires, not sure if there are people out there who really care about this debate any more, but I figured there were always people, like me, who may be a bit confused about the OME numbers for springs and shocks flying around.

I just ordered and had installed, after much research and consideration, I might add, OME 880s with a trim packer in the front with the comfort strut assembly also from OME (N91SC)

OME 906s (this was the problem area, 906s vs. 890s vs. 891s) with the rear comfort N86C shocks

For tires I went with the Bridgestone 695s instead of Revos, and for the price difference they are every bit as good all around if not better. This does come with previous expierience with Revos.

I have to say, if you are like me, looking for a conservative lift, maybe just replacement parts, which in turn upgrade your vehicle, this is the setup for you. Everything looks top notch, the lift height is perfect, the ride is INFINITELY better, and the tires in 265 are a great size and by no means look too small. There is nothing but the tiniest rake rear to front (maybe a quarter of an inch) which was something that I was worried about happening, and was pleased to find, a nonissue.

All in all this was a buying and researching nightmare with all of the numbers flying around, and a descision I had a hard time making. With the help of the incredible customer service department at ARB (seriousely one of the best companies I have ever dealt with.) The lift looks awesome, it performs even better and I feel like I have a new truck everytime I walk out to hop in.

Ill stop now before this turns into more of a commercial than it already is, but thanks to all of you guys on here who have made similar posts about your thought processes with your lift kits and the multitude of combinations that can be made, The members here at Yotatech were an invaluable research tool, and I appreciate all of the help.

Glad you are pleased with the lift. That is the same setup that I have, and for pretty much the same reasons you mentioned. Good ride, offroad ability, low COG.
I have a 99 so the height difference was not huge, but the ride change was.
I have put it through some compromising situtations off the road, and it has performed admirably as well. The only thing I might change is trying the regular shocks over the comforts since I now live in a city where the roads are better.
And yes, lift searching is a daunting task. Good job.

I would have gone with the regulars for the same reasons you give, unfortunitely St. Louis city has maybe the worst roads I have ever driven on, hands down, so I have been happy for the additional comfort recently :-).

Thanks for the reply! Its good to know others have had lasting performance and are happy with this setup down the road, because this is all new for me!

I really dont remember how much I got since it was a few years ago. I can go and measure it tomorrow if I remember. PM me if I dont. This would be with 265/75/16s though.

So the comfort shocks are for bad roads and regular shocks are for better roads???
I ask because I drive on paved roads most of the time and I bought a pair of N91SC already. Is that a mistake or will I really notice a difference? Thanks.

So with this setup on 265/75/16 Nitto TG, from ground to Limited style fender flare I sit 37 at the back and about 35.75 up front.

Is the rake really noticeable??? Because at first, I saw the numbers and thought it was a whole 2 inches. But upon further review, it's actually about an inch.

There is some slight rake, and I wouldnt say it is obviously noticeable. It is subtle and complementing of the body style in my opinion. ill look for some pics.

do you think that would work on a 97, the rear sags a little. those look like ontario plates

Thanks for posting the numbers Godzilla. Nice 4Runner... I only wish my 99 was that clean!

With the various tires sizes, tread depths, and inflation pressures it's difficult to get a good comparison of lifts. Can you remeasure from the center of the wheel/axle to the fender flare?

This will help not only me, but the next person (who may be running a different tire).

Thanks again.

That really is a NICE 4Runner. You have that fixed up nice. I like the lift. Brandenhedburg makes a good point about the measurement. It really is hard to figure what your own vehicle will be like based on others experience. So while you are out there with the tape measure, pad and pencil anyway. How about a measurement from the center of the wheel to the style line above the fender. So we can leave the flares out. Please????

Probably the last time you will publicly volunteer to make a measurment.

John

Haha, ok, I'll find a good measurement point which is independent of the trim level. And if anyone else starts a thread about OME880/906 they will be drugged, dragged out on the street and shot.

good recap of your lift. Good pictures Godzilla.

I am not familiar with the 880s up front-can you tell us a bit about those and/or why you decided on those? I am happy with my 881s but still rubbing on front mudflaps.
