6 cyl tacoma sure is sluggish

I picked up an 04 taco xcab with the trd package.
this truck is going to be my daily driver, as well as my company demo car.
(sound deadening)
seems a bit sluggish though.
it has the 6 cyl automatic, but man it drags ass.

can anyone make some suggestions for me to get a bit more pep out of this thing?
In a few weeks I am going to be adding a bunch of sound deadening and a decent amount of audio gear so I image another 400 lbs will be added to the weight.
suggestions?

Hmmm....the only time I ever really feel sluggish in my v6 Taco is when the auto-tranny downshifts on hills or on the freeway.
I guess it depends on what you're used to....I drove a 4 cyl. Dodge Dakota before this truck so its quite a step up
You could always buy the TRD supercharger

money?
a few hundo here or there. nothing big time...
Since I own a sound deadening company I am sometimes able to make trades. product for product... that helps quiet a bit.

I guess you can put a supercharger w/ 7th injector, trd headers (if they make them)....what kind of vehicle are you coming from?...I was fairly impressed with the power, for a small pickup that is, more the adequate to keep up with traffic but no race car...

Well, since you said a few hundred, then forget the SC. With the correct fuel mods, all installed by you, you would be approaching $3K for a SC'r set up done right.

The first thing you can do is go to the tech section and bust out the deckplate mod. That is a free (almost) dyno-proven 5HP. Then I would go with a custom exhaust system, no bigger than 2.5"

Headers, if available for your truck, add a good deal of HP, but they are a serious install. Almost not worth it for the hassle. But they really free up some midrange to redline power. And you can feel it.

And finally, you could re-gear. I went to 4.30's from 4.10's and I could tell.

Anyway, start with the deckplate mod.

PS: Since you are Phoenix, let me know if you need any help. But not with headers, I don't think I would do those again, even for $500!

Tuned right, you can expect another 70 or so HP with equally large gains in TQ.

TRD SC: $2000
URD kit: $1000
VB upgrade (so your tranny can handle it): $600
Smoking an 80's mullet donning Camaro owner: Priceless.

Oh yeah, make that $3600, I forgot about your tranny.

Adding that much weight will negate most anything you do to increase power.

What did you drive before a WRX STi? MY taco is a truck, it isnt a race car, BUT compared to other V6 trucks Ive owned/driven (ford chevy dodge) its got more power and go for sure. The 3.4 has great power for the truck IMHO, i get ricers around here that want to race alot(why a truck i have no idea) but most of the non v6 accords and non si civics see nothing but my tailights, and for a truck thats pretty good. My ford ranger v6 couldnt get out of its own way, i was so glad when they introduced the sohc 4.0, much better motor.

I went from a 1990 toyota pickup lifted with 33's on it. It had a V-6, but not the same V-6 I have now. All I can say is that my truck gets up and goes. I'd never say it's sluggish.
