4WD Not working

Hi folks. Need help. I've got a 95 Tacoma. Auto trans, manual hubs. Driveshaft turns, front axles are turning, 4wd indicator on dash lights up. Front wheels will not engage. And suggestions?

You do have your hubs in the locked position ??

If you do and they still don`t lock they could be seized from not being used.

if you have the hubs locked you might have broken hub gears

Yep. I've checked and double checked to make sure they are in lock position. Are these transfer cases bad to go out? If the hubs are bad what company makes a good replacement? I'll pull the hubs out in next day or two.

Hubs are a dealer-only item, or used from a recycle yard.

They may not need to be replaced, however. Mine did the same thing on an older 4runner, and they just got all gunked up and couldn't actuate properly. Unlike warn hubs, Aisin hubs seldom break. Easy to remove and check. Be sure to mark the orientation before you remove it from the spindle.

Funny I have nothing but problems with the old beat worn Aisin Hubs

Granted they were trashed before I got them Most went for scrap or were given away .

I have never had a problem with my new Warn Hubs I run them on all my Toyota 4x4 vehicles.

Well, I'm sure even Aisin hubs occasionally break, but I've haven't seen it personally, after dozens of trips over the Rubicon and Fordyce with a mix of Jeeps and Toyotas. I have seen several instances of broken Warn hubs, and broken remnants left behind.

Well yotatech world I tore into my hubs this evening. Got the front jacked up and wheels and tires removed and brake hardware as I plan on having rotors turned. I only got the drivers side hub inspected. Got removed separated the two halves nothing broken. Function as should. Reinstalled locked into the front axle as it should. Unlocked as it should. Locked transfer case into 4 hi. Transmission in neutral. Both hubs in lock position. At first one side would turn other side did not spin. After toying with different combos of locking into 4 wheel it finally started working as should. Spin one side forward other side spun backward. Real test will be when wheels are reinstalled. Was I not holding my mouth right or what?

Did you inspect the PS side hub as well? It only takes one to fail to lose 4WD. Also, I would leave the tranny in park while TC is in 4wd, so the driveshaft does not spin. The wheels should spin opposite if both hubs are internally locked.

I got the PS hub removed and inspected it worked as it should. With the front jacked up off the ground I had Both hubs locked in and it seemed to work as it should. ie.( Turn one wheel forward the other turned backwards). I lowered one wheel to the ground and turned the other and then everything started slipping again. It works until put under a load. Does it sound like maybe an axle stripped out. No noises it center chunk when it's spun forward or backward.
