4th Gen steering wheel on 3rd Gen
Has anyone tried retrofitting a 4th generation steering wheel with cruise and audio controls on a newer 3rd generation? I'd kill to be able to utilize the aidio controls off the wheel.
Anyone know where I can find a wheel? Ebay has nothing.
Thanks!

yup... you migth get away with the airbags as the 3rd gens had them i beleive,,, however you would need basically all the wiring harness and the stereo out of a new one to utilize its functions.... its not going to be a bolt on and go affair

But as for your question, it would be a lot easier to get an aftermarket radio that has a remote that you can attach to the wheel. But if you do find a wheel to retrofit, i have a stock stereo i could sell that would work with it.

my remote wont work from the wheel... unless its angled all funky
what id like to do in my dream world is dismantle my remote and create a custom little case that keeps all its functions (wouldnt need to disconnect how it works -- wires, etc), just relocates the infrared thing and would fit in one of the steering wheel holes...

Yeah, wired remotes are getting scarce, and IR remotes only work from in front of the stereo - not much good for anything. I used a wired remote and made a custom mount on the column and love it. I did this in my F150 also.
Can't change the airbag wheel, the sensors, brain, and bags work together as a calibrated set.

I'm also looking for a steering wheel audio control unit/assembly, preferably OEM. found one at the junkyard off a 98 sr5 that had a simple single phillips screw to attach it and an actual harness plug....I have a 2002 4runner and is currently looking for one that will do that same.....anyone know of one or know if the part I took out it actually factory? Please advise.TIA
