4th Gen Rear brakes

This may be a dumb question, but do any of the 4th Gen 4Runners come with rear disk brakes?

My 96 has a bad rear seal and the oil had destroyed the rear brakes, Rather than just fix it, i thought it may be possible to get 4th Ben brakes and backing plates and have them pressed onto my axleshafts. Then i could have rear disks with stock toyota parts... and a parking brake

All of the 4th gen's have 4 wheel disk brakes. The SE has bigger brakes than the SR5 and Ltd.

As said all the 4th Gens have rear disc brakes, keep in mind it has a little drum brake as well on the disc. This is for the parking/e-brake.

Anyone know if anyone has attempted this swap? 4th Gen brakes onto a 3rd Gen?

i don't think anyone has attempted it but i brought it up right after they came out and it died quickly. braking has always been my biggest pet peeve with my 4-runner, i came from a 1990 nissan pathfinder with 4-wheel discs that would stop on a dime compared to my 4runner. i just don't want to convert and lose my parking brake and have to run custom machined rotors. if you go through with this let me know cause i will be right behind you.

Well I am seriously considering trying it, I've got a blown rear axle seal that has saturated the rear brakes, and I think that is the root of my spongy brakes

Steve,

LC80's had disc's also and they're a lot easier to source than 4th gen parts. Another option is Front Range Off-Road Full Floater kit because it will allow you to mount GM disc's with a parking brake, and of course there's the added benefit of being a FF as well...

but the LC 80's have a different rear axle than the 4Runner/Taco, I considered the FROR's FF kit for my Taco, but the 4Runner will remain mostly stock and i'd like to stick with stock Toyota parts if i can. (I have GM brakes on my Taco and i like the Toyota brakes much better.

Plus the 4Runner's brakes (4th Gen) were designed for a very similar vehicle, with similar weights and similar braking power, so the calipers won't be oversized.

I have also considered the Sequoia brakes since they have the same rear disks and calipers as the 4th Gen 4Runner.

I didn't know they used the same ones on Sequoias, maybe they will be easier to find then...

We get all of our late-model 'Yota stuff from Central Foreign, that is their speciality.

Give 'em a try, ask for Don.
