4runner Skid plate question
Hi all, I have a 2nd gen 4runner that has been lifted by the previous owner. There is no skid plate or tow hooks in the front. My question is will a stock skid plate fit a lifted runner? I have no idea how much it has been lifted, but here is a picture to give an idea
thanks
thanks

Suspension lift or body lift? I know that I put a body lift on mine and I used the same skid plate...I would guess with a suspension lift you might be able to but I'm not sure.

I was able to reuse my factory skid plate w/a 4" suspension lift by welding some custom brackets to the bottom mounts on the skid plate. Took about 10 minutes and it looks good

P: When you install a suspension lift (the kind that lowers the front third member and lower control arms) the distance between the frame (near the radiator) and the lower suspension crossbar (between the lower control arms) increases and the stock skid plate becomes too short. It either has to be modified or replaced with a longer one. They do sell longer skidplates for the various lifts (Rancho, Trailmaster etc)
G: HOW did you get 3" from cranking TBars?

I bought a set of 26mm Tbars from Downey, part number 48186:
http://www.downeyoff-road.com/Suspen...s/Springs.html
Just from installing them I got about 1.5" of lift, give or take a few. A few spins with the air wench, about 1.2" above the Tbar tightening nut, and the front and rear were even. Front fender to rim went from 11" to 14.3". Wow! and suspension now feels better than stock!
P, sorry for the hijack :-)...

I highly recommend putting in these T-Bars as opposed to cranking and stressing the stock ones. BTW, the stocks T-Bars are chicken legs compared to these 26mm ones.
Again, sorry for the hijack.

I dont know about the skid plate or tow hooks but those fender flares look awful!! If I was you, I take them off around the end of August and sell them....cheap...to me..
Nice looking runner by the way...d'oh..I mean besides the fender flares

BTW I found some poeple on Ebay that R partin out a 2gen 4runner. They have the tow hooks, skidplate etc..and are selling it to me for a good price. The truck has a body lift, so judging from what Ive read on this thread the skid plate should still bolt up okay.
Next week Im going to see how much trouble I can get myself into by replacing the knock sensor. I hear its a real pain in the arse!!!

I made up a new one out of 4mm Alloy Checkerplate for mine....just as strong, weighs less, and looks heaps better!!!!
I've got an autocad drawing for the dimensions of it somewhere which I could post up if anyone is interested.
