I have an 84 Camry. It did that a few times. Usually after letting completely off the gas to exit off the interstate. It would start up and run fine. I ran a can of BG 44K through it and later put some Seafoam in it using the brake booster line. It does not do that anymore at all.

Could be a ditry/stuck AFM. Not sure how the 3.4L works but my old '86 and my friends '94 they both have an air flap on the intake that monitors air flow. It might be stuck shut, blocking air. This happened on my friend's '94.

It's the engine choking out when u release the throttle real quick or if ur going fast and let it go to idle. my 4runner has done the same thing when i went to pass someone then let off the gas cause i saw a cop and it shut off, but it started right up.

I had the exact same problem. It progressively gets worse to the point of long braking the engine will stall out. Very dangerous. I cleaned out the IAC and it solved the issue. I never imaged how much gunk had built up in there. There are a couple of writeups here and its a simple operation.

It's not going to be the battery cable unless the ALT is dead and the vehicle was running off the battery which is highly unlikely.
Anyway, I floor it a lot and have never had this problem. I would focus on the work that was just done to the vehicle. Something fishy there.

I have a very similar problem and it has gotten progressively worse. A week after I purchased the vehicle, I decided to floor it a few times to see how much power it had (and see if it could burn out haha). After flooring it the 2nd time or so, my engine stalled out. It didn't happen again for like 8 months. As time passed, now every once in a while the engine won't even start. I need to give it gas to get it to start and keep giving it gas to keep it idling for 5 or 10 minutes and sometimes it won't stall out. Has anyone experienced the stalling while trying to start the engine (when the engine hasn't been running) along with the original poster's symptoms?

Yes. I forgot to mention that hot starting was an issue with this too. I would fill up at the gas station and I would have to give it gas to get the motor started again. Otherwise it will keep cranking. I first tried plugs then some new plug wires and the problem was still there. Give it a shot. Worse case your TB and IAC will be clean. hehe

I almost guarantee its the Idle Air Control valve or throttle body. I was having similar problems, never actually died on me, but, after a nice push of the gas, I would just about stall.
Cleaning it in turn made my turn over time much faster, and the engine is running MUCH better. I don't have the link right now but do a search for it, or IAC.

Yeah it really scared me the first time it happened. I had to accelerate to get on the freeway then I had to hit the brakes and the engine stalled... These things don't stop well to begin with and the damn motor wouldn't fire up again until I gave it some gas.
