4runner
hey, I went to look at a 4runner that is for sale today, and I want to know if ya'll think it is worth it to buy it. It is a 1998 limited 4x4 with rear diff lock. It has coilovers and ome suspension lift. It has a custom rear bumper with tire carrier, and an arb front bumper, with warn 9000 lb winch. It also has 33 inch good year m/ts on rims and 33 inch bf goodrich a/ts on another set of rims. It also has a few other goodies incuding cold air intake, ski box, and rock sliders. It has 90,000 miles which is the only bad thing. He is askin $17,000. Is that worth it? How much longer will the car last? Thanks for your help. Larry

no, i dont have any pics. Its not even for sale! I just went and talked to him about it, and he said he is thinking of selling it. Its in denver.

Interesting find, Larry. I'd like to see some pictures of it as well. Tell him about the board and get him to put a few up! Either that, or tell me specifically where it's at and I'll go take some myself! Near DU? Sounds cool.
I don't think 90,000 miles is bad at all for a '98. In fact, that's pretty good. That's between 15 and 18k a year. I wouldn't worry about that aspect alone.
Sounds like it's built up pretty nice. Any idea of which manufacturers the sliders and rear bumper came from?
A friend of mine bought a '98 (stock) earlier this summer for around $17,000 as well. That's a little high in my estimation. The one you looked at has all kinds of goodies and money thrown into it. Sounds worth it, though it should still be able to be had for a little less via negotiating.
Just give it a real good look over underneath. If they wheeled it like it's capable of, just be sure that all the dings and whatever else under there are to your satisfaction. Sounds pretty sweet, personally.

hey, i will try to go get some pics. Its on University near DU, but I dont remember because I am still getting used to the roads. All I need to do now is convince my dad to let me sell my cr-v which only has 40k miles and buy this beast!!

Before you mentioned that was an ORS bumper, I thought it might be based on the picture as the tire carrier's vertical arms looks pretty much like Kerry's (H-man) here in town. Keisur, search for H-man's pictures to see his bumper again. I say again as I'm sure you saw it the first time. Dang, CO is home to the most 3rd Gens with rear bumpers! 4 that I know of now.
That is a real nice built 'Runner. I hadn't seen that before. I bet the sliders are ORS' ones as well. I have a problem with the way they appear on that last picture, though, as they don't appear to extend to the front and back flares and leave a lot of rocker exposed. I wonder if those were built for a standard cab Tacoma.

ok, so I am getting pretty serious about buying this. I only have 2 weeks to buy it and sell my cr-v, beacuse I go home to New Orleans for winter break on the 21st!!! I might just have to wait until january if it doesnt already sell by then. So, I am still a little worried about the 90k miles. I guess, I am not worried that it will break down, but that when I want to sell it again in a few years, it wont be worth anything, unless I replace all kinds of stuff. But, I guess you guys say to go for it.... yikes!!!

Try selling your CRV after the same amount of time has passed, or an Explorer, or a . . . We'll see which one is still worth proportionately more on the market. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised. Just look how much it's worth now.
Why not hang on to a vehicle for more than 3 years?
Also, if you happen to get this and later sell in its current state, you won't get near as much out of it as if it were in stock form, unless a guy like you comes along and buys it. I wouldn't count on it, though. You might want to see if the guy has the stock bumpers and what not if you don't plan to hang on to it for the long haul. This is also why I said you should be able to get it for a little less than $17,000.
