i don't notice much difference. definitely not enough to justify the price, time and effort put into it. i went from 4.10s with 225/75r15 tires to 4.88s with 33x10.5s and the difference seems pretty minor. Although that's only based on about 10 minutes of driving thus far.

You are not supposed to notice a huge difference if you are moving up in tire size and compensating with lower (higher numerically) gears. If you had gone to 33s without regearing, you would definitely notice that.

If you didn't notice a difference then you succeeded. The 4.88s are to compensate for the effective gearing change and added weight of the bigger tires. Your truck would be very sluggish with the factory gears and 33s.

Go up to 35s and you'll reallly notice the difference...if you noticed the difference, it would be a bad thing...w/ 33s you should be "normal" as before. Gears are the best way to keep performance the same when going up in tire size.

Did you change the gears and tires at the same time, or were you running the 33's for a while with the 4:10's?

ya, i was running 33x10.5 with 4.10s for a long while for i regeared. not much difference...

did you do a tooth count to verify?

do you have the gutless 3.0?

gutless w/ proper gears is still gutless....

i am sure that the truck was originally equipped with 4.10s and that the truck was bone stock (to the best of my knowlege) when I bought it with the exception of seats and nerf bars. I have the 22re.

Your missing out on a variable someplace. I had 4:30's with 31's and went to 33's for a while before adding my 4.88's. I hadn't even let the clutch all the way out yet when I had mine done before I noticed it. It was a night and day difference. I've had em for 10K now and I be willing to bet they have paid for themselves already in gas saved. I get 45 more miles to each tank of gas after regearing.

My difference was huge in going from 4.30's to 4.88's. I noticed it immediately. Are you sure you didn't have 4.56's? Did you count the pinion and ring gear teeth?

Probably 10 on the pinion and 48 or 49 on the ring gear, I'm not positive though. When I bought my old 4.30's at a junkyard I counted 10 pinion teeth and 43 on the ring gear.

I did the same thing as you Sizzle. To be honest I wasn't that impressed also running the 4.88's. They only lasted a month(setup wrong) so I went with the 5.29's. That's were I noticed a difference. I perfer the 5.29's way over the 4.88's.

Well the 5.29's broke after 5 years, so I threw stock gears back in(4.10's) Holy ˟˟˟˟ was it a DOG after that. Can't wait to regear again.

Hey Sizzlechest - check the door jam axle code. If you have this axle code: A/TM G254

The G stands for 8 inch ring gears
The 25 stands for 4.56 gear ratio
The 4 stands for 4 pinions, non limited slip - typical of most 3.0 V6 trucks & 4runners but um, you never know?

If you had 29 in place of the 25, then you had a 4.10 gear ratio.

i hope there's a noticeable difference!! i just ordered mine from marlins, well,kinda. they are out of stock and don't know when more are going to come available,so i might be running tellico on 3.91's!!! that would SUCK!!!i talked to cj,he seems to think that i might be able to set up the gears,but i still think i'll be needing help!! later

When I went from 28" to 32" I didn't feel like it was a dog, or notice much difference either. After my last trip to VA, where I averaged 22mpg (mileage per GPS not odo) I don't plan to regear. I still have the stock 4.10s in mine.

yeah my 4.10 are 10 in the pinion and 41 on the ring gear just divide the teeth of the ring gera by the teeth of the pinion.

speakin of 4.88 s i saw dragr1' s wife (unless he grew his hair out) driving today, i honked b/c i thought it was you at first.
