4.7 swap on 2nd gen?

so has anyone attempted this? is it feasible? i didn't know whether the new 4.7 V8 would even fit in the 2nd gen. engine bay. i don't have the money now, but in the next couple years i am looking to put a bigger engine in. i love my '95 runner but its just so underpowered. so can it be done?

When I was doing a search for a replacement engine for my 4runner, I saw a bunch of Hilux diesel engines and was seriously thinking about putting one of them in my ride..

The swap can be done, it just may take a bit of serious work to make it fit, not to mention the rewiring needed.

I've been thinking about this one also. Does anyone know if the 4.7 will physically fit without modifying the firewall and tranny tunnel? I've heard that the tranny is pretty large for the V8. I would love to do this one. If my 3.0 dies, I WILL tackle it!!

I look at it this way - you'll know it can handle the juice (especially when installing the SC )

Plus Marlin has an ultimate setup for it!!

yah, i mean i love my '95 runner and i'd love to keep it for as long as i can keep making it run. its only got 80k on it right now so its relatively low mileage for its age but this swap would be just awesome cause the 3.slow is my only complaint about it. and the reason i asked about the 4.7 specifically is because i'd really like to keep a toyota engine in it. i'm sure i could find V8's that would fit but that 4.7 under the hood would just be so sweet!

ha, which is basically why i was asking about it, because if i'm gonna make the effort to swap engines, if the 4.7 is feasible then i'd much rather have the added HP

I'm wondering if there is a way to bolt the R151F up to it. I doubt it, but it would sure be nice to have a V8 with a 5spd.
I just found out that my 3.4 has a problem with a wrist pin or connecting rod. It is really noisy when you let of the gas at about 3000rpm. I showed it to toyota mechanic and he confirmed my gut feeling. I am conteplating to buy a wrecked 4runner or tacoma from the insurance company. Seems to be cheaper than to buy an engine from the wrecker. I was quoted $2500 cdn for a 2001 3.4 with 20,000 kms on it. Not a bad price actually. No computer or wiring harness with that though.

A iforce would be icing on the cake if I could make that fit. I would even settle for an auto trannie buy I don't know how to go about the shifter because I think the tundras have the shifter on the steering column. Correct me if I'm wrong.

After selling my 95 4Runner and getting a 2000 V8 Tundra, I definitely found out that V8 has a lot more power. If you can squeeze that V8 into that 4Runner that will be a fast ride. I don't see any need for a supercharger on my Tundra, its fast enough for me.

Doesn't a supercharged 3.4 make more power than the
V8?

There is a quad cam 32 valve lexus V8 engine...it's in cars, called the UFVZE I think. it's something close to that...I saw a website where one was swapped into a Hilux (4Runner) looked like a cool swap!

depends where you want the power.

with the v8, it's probably low end... with the SC, well you know where they start boostin'...

for me, with a dual crawler, i would go for the 3.4l with the SC. since it is easier and i have half of the drivetrain already for my 90.

remember that the v8 is longer so firewall and radiator will be part of the issues to overcome...

but as someone said, nothing that $$$ cant fix...

A fella in New Zealand put in the 1UZ-FE in his 2nd Gen. It would take a lot of work but it can be done.

I had just found a guy that did this last week. His truck is a highly modified mini, but it shows it can be done. This truck actually flies http://race-dezert.com/index1.html. If this link isn't direct it is under readers rides in the middle of the first page (00-04 Toyota race truck). There are no specs on his transmission etc.
