3rd gen runner: Anyone here change their own rear axle bearings?

I know there are endless threads regarding rear axle seals
And bearings....some broken down to an atomic level but my question is.....has anyone replaced their own rear axle bearings at home with Harbor freight tools? Is it possible?
I just replaced both rear axle seals and its clear at least one of the bearings need replacing. I have no second vehicle or days to wait forca machine shop.
Thx!

No Harbor freight tools but my 50 ton press makes it pretty easy ..

Know any one with a press ??

Most places I know will press the old bearings off and and the new ones on while you wait and most times watch.

Have you called around to ask??

Well, i have a napa, zone and o reilly around the block and pretty much right next to each other.
Does HF sell a bench top press? I have a nice bottle jack ready to donate to the cause.

Just hold on to the drum plate and slam the axle shaft down on concrete (squarely) a few times and that bearing will pop right off. Done it a few times. Highly recommend gloves or you'll bruise your palms :-/ To get it back on, just torque the 4 nuts down in a sequence and it'll press back on. Now commence telling me how it's bad to do that...

I like the press on method. Very crafty.
The bang off method needs some refining....

There is a thread on here some place showing the tool someone made I think with all the dimensions.

Most times I just flip the axle in the press to install the bearing

Here's what I made around 11 pm. I ended up doing the other side a few days later.

Where are you located?

Here's the one I made last weekend. About $8 in materials. Got plate from a scrap pile.

I used strictly what I had around the garage. The giant sway bar bolts are because one of the angle iron pieces was flexing too much.

I guess I should say mine is for the 4Runner's funky bolt spacing.

I used "black iron" for pipe section. Not recommended but doable. I needed to get a little weld practice in before welding on frame. Mine actually is for a 1st gen 4rnr. Went to the on-post autocraft shop to use press, didn't require much pressure to push bearings out.

Shoot if it works
