Ok when looking for a 89-95 toyota pickup xtra cab, i've noticed that there are some with a higher factory suspension that are two wheel drive, same height as a 4x4 one, than others. there's some that are low like a street truck. Can you lift a low one to the 4x4 height merely by cranking on the torsion bars and different rear leaf springs. Anyone know what I mean or did one?

I know what you're talking about with the trucks, even some 4x4's seem to be at different heights, without lifts.

I am not sure about whether you would be able to gain alot of height doing a Tbar crank, and changing the leafs, and if you were to do that, your ride would get real bad real quick.

4x4s are sprung over, 4x2s are sprung under. this means that on a 2wd truck, the leaf springs are under the axle, while the 4x4 has the springs over the axle. if you can weld or know somebody who can, you could put new perches on top the axle which would give you about 4" of lift or so. as for the front, i know you can buy drop spindles and crank the t-bars

Thanks for the input guys. Seems like I can find more of these street type suspension xtra cabs than the 4x4's. Guess I can just wait to find a 4x4 unless it's just a great deal I can't pass it up and just work on lifting it.

What kind of wheeling do you intend on doing, if any? Prerunner trucks are mostly 2WD, and there is a host of options to turn 2WDs into lifted fast trucks. If you plan to do slower, more technical trails, then I would wait for a 4WD.

I intend to wait since I like off roading more than speeding across a desert. I prefer the look of a 4x4 with a little bit more meatier tires and a lift VS the squat fat fendered look of the prerunners. I had a 2000 4 Runner SR5 before, got rid of it cuz I didn't like the payments. Took the running boads off and took that thing 4 wheeling the first weekend I had it. Drove a dirty truck back and people thought I was insane for messing up a perfectly clean and new truck. That's what they're made for though. Thanks.
