315s on 4.10s?

Has anybody even ran 35s on 4.10s? If the opportunity presents itself i'm getting a set of 315s and purchasing the gears a month later, just wondering if i could ride on them before regearing. it would be mostly city driving. Also, does anyone have any recommendations for 4.88s besides Yukon? Thanks

I'm sure someone has but I don't know who. You will be fine with 4.10's especially if your just driving around town. Yukon is the way to go in my opinion.

Auto or stick?
i've got 33's and 4.10's (on my 89 htat orig came with 28's) and it does just fine. (3.0 5spd)
my cousin had 37's on 4.10's in his truck (same as mine) while he has no 4th or 5th gear, it's driveable.
315 = 33 or 35? ( i know it's width, but 315/what)
turn OD off if it's an auto and you should be fine. a tranny cooler would do it good....

thanks guys, it's an auto. and it would be a 315/75/16 so about 34.7 x 11.5

it will be super slow. i have 4.30s and 285's really decreased my accleration.

when i upgraded from 265/285 to 285s i had very minimal power loss. i know this will set me back more but i think the power will be bearable. thats weird netw, you have the 3.4?

I had 285's with 4.10 gearing and noticed a decrease in power. I think that you will be struggling just to get around town for a month.

Think that when you go from 265/75/R16 to 285/75/R16 that is one inch difference. But 285's to 315's is another two inches! I think that you will be super slow!

I have 285's with 4.10's and I have no problems getting around I wouldn't be worried about running 315's for a month or two.

Agreed. You'll definitely notice a big loss in power. But, it also depends on how you'll be using your rig in the next month. You might be fine just mall crawling...unless you want to get anywhere in a hurry!

Just turn off the OD and drive it. With 35's and 5.29's it will still be slow

<--running on 35's on 4.10. It lost a lot of power. I am going to re gear it as soon as possible. Its pretty hard to drive uphill. Otherwise, you will be ok on flat area.Theres lots of hills where I live.

Just depends on if it came with an E-locker or not. Most E-lockers have 4.30 gearing but if it's just a Limited 4x4 with no E-locker chances are it has 4.10 gearing.

Mine doesn't have an Elocker, and according to my door panel I got 4.10's, but I've heard those door panels to be wrong before. I questioning, becuase I'm about to upgrade to 285's.

dude, its gonna suck, i noticed a loss of power when i went to my 285s, i cant imagine what 35s are gonna be like... go ahead and regear, i went to 4.56's, but thats because i dont plan on running 35s for a long long time...

You'll be fine. Yes, it will be slower, but if you're regearing soon, then I'd say go for it.

As far as gear choice, I'd go with Precision gears.

In that case, do the tire/driveshaft test to determine what gears you have. Here's a quote a I got from GSGALLANT on another thread. Notice he's got a non-elocked 4Runner w/ 4.30s:

i swear when i went from a 265 highway tire to a 285 bfg all terrain the power loss was barely noticeable. i know this is quite a bigger step up but i really think the loss of power will be easily bearable. i guess we'll find out soon enough

315's on 4.30's is a dog...especially in city driving with an auto. turn off OD and turn on ECT and you might not notice it much. the difference between the 315's and the 285's is barely noticable...but its there. you'll notice alot in your gas mileage.

get a full regear kit from ringpinion..biz. he had a motive setup + install kits a while back for about 6 bills. or go with precisions. yukons would be at the end of the list for me...along with genuine and other non-brands.

Let me just throw in my 2 cents.

Will you notice it? Yes. You will.

Will your truck still drive? Yes, it will.

All this stuff about regearing is great, but if you're only going a month, you'll be fine.

As long as you understand that it will be different, then I wouldn't worry about it at all. Get the tires, regear when you can.

Anyone whining about power on a 3.4 has either NEVER driven a 22R or RE or forgotten what it was like. Even regeared, 95 horse gets you nowhere fast. But it does get you there.

I had 285's on my 4.10 and I drove across country even towing, not noticeable at all. I then got 315/75/16. but as luck would have it I supercharged it a month before I did the tires. I still can do 80 down the freeway with only 2400RPM with my 315's and 4.10's. re gearing will affect your freeway driving by upping the rpm output. around town will be fine. my buddy drove on 35's with his taco for like 40,000 miles with 4.30, not much of a difference.
