31 x 10.50s On a Taco (allready searched)

Getting some new tires soon for my 1997 Tacoma 3.4 5speed - currently riding on 15" alloys (I assume 15 x 8?) and 30 x 10.50 tires - everything is stock (suspension, coils etc.)
I have been getting mixed messages from the posts on moving up to 31 x 10.50 tires. Some have said they were rubbing becuase of backspacing etc.....IS this tire too big for my rig? I definetly do some trail running and dont want to get a bigger tire just for looks -it needs to perform well on the trail - I am looking into eventually getting a lift, but in the meantime will this tire be rubbing when I am doign heavy wheeling? Or is the 31 x 10.50 small enough to eliminate rubbing etc? Thanks much guys...

woops - the Tacoma is a 4x4

I assume you have the 4x4 (or the "higher" stock version of the tacoma).. I have a 2000 and it came stock with 31s on the 15" alloys. they fit fine. but then again, they were some crappy generic A/T which actually measured about 29.5". I can't see a problem fitting 31s though.

if you're going to lift eventually though, I would suggest doing that first if you can, then you can stuff an even larger tire, like a 32" under there.

hope this helps

Well the thing is I dont want HUGE tires - just bigger ones. I dont want a loss of power or anything and I DEFINETLY dont want to regear as this guy is my daily driver and frequently sees 75-80 mph highway driving. definetly considering a suspesnion lift eventually as I have bottmed my rig out quite a few times while wheeling due to lack of travel.

I think as long as you stick to the stock wheels (should be 15x7 - look on the back side of the rim for the specs), they'll fit in close to the vehicle. If you go to wider wheels or ones with less back side spacing (i.e. stick out farther), then you may find rubbing problems. Fender trimming and/or a mild suspension/body lift could help:

31s came stock on all of the trucks/runners that were 4x4s up until they started going with the 16" alloys in the mid 90s

and in the future I was looking at 32 X 10.50s I was thinking of the cornfed 2.5" w/ diff drop - does that sound like a good setup to you guys?
These are the tires! http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....um=215QR5MTOWL

by the way do the spacers compromise the travel on the front IFS at all? since the shocks are preloaded can they travel as much as before?...prob a stupid noob question - my instinct is travel is the same they are just harder to compress and hence stiffer.....

ummm then again looks like I could get a Donahue racing full setup for about 2,000! That would only take me 20 years to pay off! Then again whats 2000 on top of 25K in college loans right?

So from other posts I have kind of gathered that you need to lift to get a 32X11.50 under there - right?

Some people have suggested at least 3-4" of lift for a 32X11.50 is this accurate? And why would you need that much - it doesnt seem like you would need that much more room under there, if any, to get a bigger tire in.

You can squeeze 32's under there with 1 inch of lift, you wont have a problem with 2.5. Your tires will have plenty of room to breath.

Snwbrd I know you are using the OME 881s but I have noticed alot of people are switching over to Tundra TRD coils for lift any idea why?

I like your setup with the 1.5 in front and the OME coils -how is that working out as far as off road performance and stress on your CVs? Would you reccomend that over a straight spacer lift - what are the advantages besides the often mentione ride quality?
