305's or 285's?? HELP!

Hey guys,

I have the opportunity to sell my BFG Muds that I have on my rig now and replace them with the new Mickey Thompson MTZ's...great news I know. However, it's about size...always is.

I can fit 285's with zero problems. I test fitted ADH8796's 305's today and it looks like I might have a few issues.

Here's a pic of the biggest place of concern

Front bumper, valence can be trimmed but I'm worried at full stuff it may rub on the metal part of the bumper which I'd rather not have to trim:

The back isn't so much of an issue as I can remove the mudflap if it rubs on that but another area I'd like for you guys to look at.

What do you guys think? The 285's sound better but the 305's look better. The 285's fit perfectly in the fender wells, the 305's will stick out quite a bit further posing the danger of dings and scratches from rocks on the paint (the newly installed sliders will help a little bit with that).

Here's a pic of the two comparatively:

They look so much bigger and badder. However, I think the 285's will still give the bigger "fill in the fender better" look but the 305's once again are still better looking IMO. Either way I'm gonna go with the MTZ's as long as all of my funds come together.

Here's a zoomed out pic so you can see how it looks overall:

So what do ya'll think? Am I gonna rub a lot with the 305's? Should I just take a chance and go for 'em? Or should I keep with what I know and go with the 285's?

Thanks for readin,

Fink

I like the wider stance of the 305's, but I would say stick with what you know is a sure thing...285's. Both look great, and you have a nice looking rig.

305's. you wont have any problems with it hitting the metal part of the bumper. just trim the bottom corner of the valence..n youre good to go!

Do you guys think they stick out too far from the fender flares...to the point where it doesn't look as good?

Thanks for the replies so far,

Fink

I personally like the way the 305s look compared to the 285s. If I had the opportunity you had i would go with the 305s for sure.

I say go for the 305's.

I hear what you're saying about flinging mud on your rig, you should see mine right now thanks to my new wheels, but I've resigned the fact that I've never kept up a street queen, so who am I kidding anyway?

Like you said, the sliders will help a little and you don't see as rough of weather down there, so I think your paint will hold up much better since you don't have gravel on the road 6 months out of the year.

Do it, Do it, Do it...

Erich

PS. Send me your 285's

I might know someone who would be interested in those 285's locally if you decide to get the 305's.

here are some comparisons. mine has 285 mt/r's and my buddy has 305 mt/r's. they stick out slightly further and they look a bit more balloonier (for lack of a better word). im personally liking the taller narrower tire these days..but i do love my 35X12.5's.
you've got front flaps still..so i wouldnt be too worried about rocks n such being an issue.

in this pic, the 305's seem smaller...but its just that theres more bulge compared to the 285.

its a toss up for sure...

In some manufacturers there is a slight difference and in others it's just that they look bigger.

It's completely a toss up right now...I won't know til this weekend whether I can afford the swap or not.

Keep the advice and thoughts coming though...I can use all the help I can get.

Thanks,

Fink

I have a set of 295 Nitto Terras and a set of 285 Cooper STT's. when comparing them.
Nitto Terra 295/75/16 33.27x11.73

Cooper STT 285/75/16 33.10x11.3

Interco SSR 285/75/16 33.90x11.4

Same year listed 265 vs. listed 285 though according to interco's site they measure almost 34"

BFG AT loadD 285/75/16 32.80x11.4

Its a Fayetteville, AR Mickey Thompson MTZ epidemic! Myself included.

Don't know about size though... Have you thought about a body lift, IF they don't fit? Don't know how much it would help, just a thought.

Yeah but I was really tryin to stay away from the body lifts...I like just having the suspension. I've got the body lift in my garage but I just put the sliders on so that would kinda suck. It's not worth it for such a small width difference, I'll probably just stick with the 285's. The difference in price would only be like $51 for a brand new set of tires...that's pretty awesome.

Thanks for all the advice guys, keep it comin.

Well I ordered the 285's on Friday. They should be here by Wednesday.

In the end the total difference was around $200.

I'll definitely post up after I get 'em mounted.

Thanks for all the help guys!
