3.4L 5VZ FE Blown Head gasket....

Help!!!

Overheated and blew the head gasket on a 99 4Runner with 3.4l.

Put it back together and still overheats; and has exhaust coming into the water supply.

Assume the typical failures are:

1. Should have milled the heads 0.10" to straighten them out. They looked fine...

2. Should have double check to make sure that the head gaskets were correctly
on the "left" and "right" sides.

=> Are the R/L Head Gaskets the Same???

=> Does it matter if they are installed on the "wrong side???

3. Any other gremlins that you guys can recommend???

Thanks for the help.

PS: Shoot the designer who put that @#$%^& cross pipe behind the engine...

Wow, you should always machine the heads when doing head gaskets, this makes them seal better...plus if you overheated the engine then the heads have to be warped and will quickly blow out the new head gaskets. As far as L&R I would think they would be identical but the best way to tell is compare them to the old ones. I know at honda our head gaskets had a block side and a head side, but you couldn't get them in wrong since it would only fit one way.
