3.4 tune-up today...
I post this in hope of helping others.
I am mechanical and have worked on my own vehicle always. I picked up my 96 Taco in May w/118k mi. and didnt know what services had been done. I figured a tune-up couldnt hurt. I bought NGK BKR5eKPB-11 pulgs off Ebay for a fraction of the $12ea. price and picked up a set of NGK plug wires off www.sparkplugs.com
Well I went for it today. Took my time. First thing I noticed was the old plugs were not that tight, in fact two, I didnt even need a rachet to remove. I changed them all and tourqued them to 18lbs used anti-seize, no prob. Installed the new wires.
So im finishing the wires and reinstalling the coil packs and low and behold I strip a bolt hole that holds down the coil pack. I run to Napa(in a panic) and buy a Heli coil kit for $37(ouch) Get back home reacess the situation, dig through the bolt bucket and find some all thread that screws in,(the problem is the original bolts arent long enough), so I JB weld it in there, slam a nut and washer on there, return to Napa for a refund.
My old plugs(Denso K16TR11) were visually worn and I could tell right away my truck was running better.
Next im doing front brakes w/ new Brembo rotors w/ PF pads.
BTW I did all my research here before doing any work on my truck.
